So my set is good to go so far.

It's missing the DVD, so apparently whoever donated it really didn't care about the rest. I'm also thankful to both the original owner and Goodwill for not damaging the slip or putting stickers on it. Since I have a complete, slipless copy already, I'll just keep the slip and donate the DVDless copy to the library, because I don't feel right about immediately donating it right back to the same Goodwill.

Can anyone verify if the 2017 GKIDS release of Totoro has Mono or Stereo Japanese audio? Somebody checked his copy and said the Japanese track is in Mono when it should be in Stereo (English/French tracks are in Stereo).

I have the 30th Anniversary Edition GKIDS put out and the Japanese track is in stereo.

With left/right separation and not just dual mono?

EDIT: was given the DTS-HD MA JP tracks from the GKIDS 2017 BD and Ghibli 2014 Miyazaki Box BD. All sound comes out of center speaker in GKIDS 2017 BD, so it's in mono. JP BD has the Dolby Stereo separation like it should.

There was this one, which had a good chunk of them, but the discs aren't as good as Shout's.

Well, that boxset has only the 11 movies directed by Miyazaki, out of the total 23 Studio Ghibli movies, so not quite half of them. Also, eBay is riddled with bootleg copies of this boxset, so if you find the set for a low price anywhere, be very wary. The genuine sets are going for well over $100 now.

There likely won't be another box set besides that one, and Grave of the Fireflies will never be included as Toho handles the international rights which is why Disney and GKIDS never got a hold of it, it's currently in the hands of Sentai Filmworks.

Would it be correct to assume that the US Disney BD has correct audio, as it is based on the JP release (IIRC)?

I don't know. Isn't the first time Shout Factory has audio issues.

Not always, Porco Rosso and FUoPH were announced after the previous slate was released. I would guess this month they'll be announced.

Then theoretically they could do Ronja as well, plus the one Miyazaki is currently working on.

I'd love a steel of Mary and the Witch's Flower but I'm sure all parties involved would prefer it not be marketed as a Ghibli title, since it isn't one.

My vote for next pairing is Pom Poko and Earthsea, for what it's worth.
