When you feel up for it I can re-post or link to my thoughts on the Apple TV 4K.
Thank you.

I can ask her. It's more likely that a friend of mine would actually remember to do it, though.

Please send me a link to your ATV4K review; I am still interested in getting one someday.

It is on my Amazon.de wishlist. The only way to get all three cuts is to import it.

Glad to hear Vilya is doing well. I often lurk this thread instead of posting. had my own health issues the last 2 months as well. constant hours long attacks. had my gallbladder removed on Friday roughly 2 years after the appendix. i am finally going on my harry potter trip across the pond in a few weeks that the aforementioned appendix, pandemic and divorce kept postponing.

also had 7 disc pre-orders as of last week but they are starting to roll in.

been catching up on my recent 4K discs. will watch Unbreakable tomorrow. also still buying digital.

You have been through a lot. I hope that your health problems are now behind you and that you can finally enjoy that long delayed and well deserved vacation. May everything get better for you from here on out.

Post here.

Since that post I procured a used Mac Mini, updated the OS and installed Xcode on it so I could install Developer (here) on the ATV and use Display HUD. Took 3 tries to get it to work. Once you turn off Display HUD it continues to display if you return to the same content you were watching, I have to select a different show to get it to go away. iOS 15 was released yesterday but I have not updated yet and not sure that I will.

Another quirk, Kris Deering reports his Trinnov AVP shows Dolby TrueHD when playing IPTV Atmos content via the ATV. My Yamaha AVP will very briefly show TrueHD then displays Atmos when starting IPTV Atmos content. The IPTV Atmos content is really Dolby Digital+ (lossy).

Played some Atmos content from Amazon and Display HUD showed audio codec as qec-3, Atmos from Disney+ showed audio codec as ec-3 (channel's 6, sample 48KHz). EC-3 = Dolby Digital+

As far as your Apple TV 4K goes, the new Tv OS 15 is live for updating.

Waiting to see if any gremlins are lurking in 15. Some mentioned there may be some new commands if one uses the ATV to learn IR codes from a IR remote. Looking into this.

IMO, his objection is SVOD, AVOD, etc. talk in this thread and is justified. If you are making reference to the ATV it can do those plus EST as in Amazon, MoviesAnywhere, Vudu, etc. With InFuse it can be a media player as well.

First, and foremost. I’m glad to hear Vilya and others are doing well. Secondly, I’m still not using a lot of digital or physical at this point. I can’t remember the last time I bought a disc since the divorce. Outside of a hotspot, the place I live at isn’t digital friendly. Although my girlfriend has a pretty good collection and streaming options. Right now I just want to rebuy some of the Marvel movies in 4K. I just haven’t decided when I’m upgrading to a 4K player. AVS Commander, do you still recommend the Sony player?

So can my Roku and Amazon Fire Stick.

Hi Donster, glad to hear you are doing good. Sony OLED won the 2021 Shootout again, so you should check out their displays. I've had my Sony UHD 4K since 2017 and the Streaming is Terrific with the Android Apps. So give them a try before you start buying Discs again, I think your options will be a lot better!

It is disappointing that you can not get Dolby Atmos audio when using Vudu; is that an ATV4K issue or does Vudu simply not offer Dolby Atmos audio? The entire reason that I want an ATV4K is to be able to enjoy Dolby Atmos audio and Vudu is one of the apps that I use the most often.

Any trouble watching 4K video content from the various streaming sources with the ATV4K?

Have you priced the Sony A90J TVs? The 55" costs $2800, the 65" costs $3800, and the 83" costs $8000. Let us know which one you buy.

People that want the best/most options enjoy both physical media and digital distribution; they do not arbitrarily limit themselves to just one or the other.

You can get Atmos via VUDU through the ATV4K. Who said you can't?
