Looks like a timing issue to me.

Based on the article, the Expansion disk #1 couldn't hit retail for PS3 until mid-August. The second disk wouldn't be available until mid-September at the earliest.

By that time, most people will either already have the DLC through PSN or go buy the GotY edition.

I know there are some people who would love the expansion disks, but I'm guessing that Bethesda figures the expansions wouldn't be worth the cost. At 9.99 x 4, the two expansion discs are almost the same price as the GotY edition - all within a 2 month period.

I will be buying it.

Sucks. I wish I could take a stand against Bethesda and the business practice they allow, but unfortunately, the opportunity cost is too high

I love Fallout 3. So far it is my third favorite game this generation (Dead Space and Warhawk take up the rest of the top three, for me).

I will take this moment to laugh.

And continue to play FO3 on my PC. Awesome though. Broken Steel especially needs to be available.

Buy it used then, from ebay.

F* YES! I KNEW it was only a matter of time. I think I will just sell my disc to buy the GOTY edition too. I hate DLC in general (prefer discs).

Does anyone know/think that if you buy the GotY edition, the trophies will be added to the list if you already owned the original Fallout 3 game?

Yes, your trophies will be synced with PSN. All they are doing is adding more trophies to the list. This is the same sort of thing they did with RE5, SSHD and Bioshock.

Thanks. This means I'm going to stop playing for now and resume after buying the GotY edition.

Do one of these add on packs include the patch that allows you to continue to play your game even after you beat the main quest, like in Oblivion? This is the one thing that really gripes me about the PS3 version of Fallout 3.

I think one of the DLCs made this change. I can't remember for sure though. I know that at least the level cap was increased.

Yes it has been announced, sorry no link handy.... I think its to be sometime in the fall and will include all download content, which would be the stuff on xbox now coming soon to ps3, as well as the d/l content coming later this month to xbox and ps3 in the next few.

Some more info
