All right fellas, I honestly have to ask; what is the industries impression of the whole BD-Live thing? I don't have many BD-Live titles but, by and large, I find them to be devoid of anything that actually adds any real value to the film I bought. A few high-profile BD-Live releases, such as Iron Man and even T2, don't even HAVE anything available from the sites. All that potential seems to be wasted on the studios putting out these discs.
I've always been a big advocate of including extra material in the discs sets but it seems like BD-Live has gone a step too far and fallen off the edge of the value cliff. |

Two things:
1. Is cable's #1 Drama on TNT, The Closer, ever coming to blu-ray. I know that Warner distributes the show in DVD and I wouldn't expect much from them, but I believe the show is shot on film and would look pretty good for a TV show. 2. I just finished watching T2:Sknyet Edition and the profile 2.0 stuff needs to be saved for after the menu has loaded. I watched this movie over two nights and the second night I disconnected my Sony BDP-2350 from the internet so the load times would improve. The first night I spent nearly 10 minutes glancing at the TV from the kitchen thinking it was loading the movie and the movie was waiting for input from me about interactive menus. Then it gave me my location. Then the menu screen finally loaded. I recall a similar problem with Iron Man. The 2.0 stuff really needs to be saved for after the menu's load. I got in early on this thread post #56 and really enjoy reading through your responses. |

The biggest thing that needs to happen IMO is that there needs to be a centralized BD-Live login and server farm structure that can handle the load of these big titles and keep it simple. It's just going to get worse with all these discs phoning home. Thanks for the kind words ![]() |

Jeff, did you dislike the new ST movie as much as I did? It just didn't feel like ST to me. It was an action movie with spectacular effects and bad jokes, really. The only high points of the movie to me were Simon Pegg and Leonard Nimoy.

That was pretty well-known, though. If you know who the "you know who" is without his saying the name, that proves it.
I haven't seen the film or sought out spoilers and I know who the cameo is because I heard about it several times on TV before the film opened. |

Wasn't well known to me. And while I still don't KNOW, it could logically be only one or two people (and really only one).

Yes, but is there any reason to think that any past or upcoming seasons will or will not come to blu-ray? Season 4 is being released this Tuesday with never even a mention for blu-ray. I am one of those people who don't really care if the show is missing S1 on blu so long as I am able to get the latest stuff on blu.

Still I believe the programmers should not even test for an internet connection until the user selects BD Live content. Give the user some credit for knowing what they want and in particular not wishing to spend time waiting for any BD Live content to even begin until the user says so. I greatly dislike programmers who do not give the end user any credit for being able to pick and choose what they want. Garbage in, Garbage out thats what I was taught in programming. Many of us don't want the BD Live stuff at all. I would rather leave my BD player connected to my network at all times so that FW updates are not missed, but now I am reconsidering and going to leave it disconnected waiting for a disc to not play or see that a new FW is available here. For people who don't have a standalong and instead use a PS3 will find that it is often difficult and time consuming to disable the internet connection before playing movies. Sometimes it's not an option to disconnect the wired connection. I beg the studios to employ some type of standard when it comes to BD enabled discs. |

If you don't want the stuff to load, unplug your ethernet or disable internet features. Paramount upped their server game big time after Iron Man, and they've been good to go ever since. This is the first big LG title to use BD Live, and they hit the same wall. A year from now this isn't going to be a problem. |

Perhaps I don't have standing to comment on the subject since my player is not connected to the internet, but it's hard to see how the studios could rationally think there is huge potential if they don't know what that potential is. It all seems like profoundly wasted and misguided effort to me.

I've tried using some of the BD-Live commentary tracks (like David Goyer's track) and video extras for "The Dark Knight" but the load times were far to long. I hope Warner will someday/somehow speed that up. Since you mentioned Paramount, I'll have to try "Tropic Thunder" again to see the extra 'Full Mags' extras which had similar problems as Warner's with loading times.
