Ended up testing all the tires but settled on Street Tires + tire width increase. This allowed just enough increase in hp & sufficient grip to keep up with the D400 Civic at Nordschleiffe. Miata has faster cornering but Civic still has ~10hp advantage to pull away slowly on straights.

Maple Valley lap time was also equal to the race tire build.

FYI FM7 has reached end of life, so buying it now won't exactly be easy but given that the game's been out ~4 years I think it pulled in the vast majority of potential players. Was hoping for a FM8 more than a FH5 but hopefully the next Motorsport will be coming in 2022.

I am guessing it will. T10 was quite particular in stating it is going to be called Forza Motorsport, not FM8. That leads me to think that it will have a brand new core game that receives continous updates (instead of new release every 2 years) with purchasable new contents. It is a much smarter and less resource intensive model IMO.

Hoping for something grand. 90% confident that I'll be getting the 'bargain' version on day 1.

Yeah from what I recall the lack of using the "8" (which I just used for clarity about it vs a prior FM title) is because the series is effectively rebooting. So we'll see what that means! I've been with the series since #2 so I have high expectations, for better or worse.

I was Sony/GT fan until GT4 which got awfully repetitive. Defected to MS/FM. First bought 360 and played backwards compatible FM1 that was remarkably refreshing compared to GT at the time. Once I got hooked on the online racing, there was no turning back. I still remember one of the first online race on Nordschleiffe in personally painted 1993 JACCS Civic Honda EG6. By FM7 (with the clown race suit) the handling/feel of the cars I felt were lagging behind others (Assetto Corsa, especially).

GTS looked extremely enticing so got a PS4 on sale in 2017. In terms of presentation and celebration of automotive culture, I think GTS is clearly ahead. FM, IMO, has become a little exploitative of the culture.

I am hoping FM lose a bit of Horizon's flare and get back to core motorsport simulation/competition.

I envy your experience with both series.

My hope is we get a new FM that captures a lot of the essence of, vaguely, FM2-FM4. Somewhere in there is the "perfect" FM in my opinion.

And I'd like to see Forza games offer further customization. There are "Forza" brand hoods and whatnot in FH4 for example. A more extensive array of bumpers/kits, hoods, spoilers, etc, that are original and available on many cars in the game would help beyond wheels and paint/graphics for spending time making a car your own and revising it from time to time. We get so much amazing individualism mechanically, so the next arena for me are the aesthetics.

The one that I remember the most is FM2 because it had RL brand name tires!

I'm sure many companies expressed their concerns regarding the grip/durability of their digital tires. For whatever reason, all the brand names disappeared in FM3.
