Nope, there have been twelve films in the franchise thus far.

So now there can be a debate. Is Freddy vs Jason not part of the Franchise? When it has a progression from Jason Goes to Hell.

I’m going by the Shout! Factory box set and the Friday the 13th franchise Wikipedia page. Freddy vs Jason would count as the 11th film in the franchise.

Man I must be more tired than I thought, I counted 13 movies.

No worries, easy mistake. They don’t make it easy to keep track. I just remember that Jason X = 10, and count from there.

With those two lawsuits out there, they may never get to 13.

Yeah, I didn’t know about that. It’s a sad affair, but stranger things have happened. I don’t think anyone could predict getting a narratively satisfying follow up and box office success like Halloween 2018 with Jamie Lee Curtis’s long awaited return, so I’m holding out hope for the future of F13.

On the bright side, just means more time for somebody to perfect a killer screenplay for the reboot, perhaps even a well-planned trilogy, while we wait for these lawsuits to pass.

This lawsuit won't be over until one of those 2 guys are dead.

If that’s the case, guess we can expect the next one at some point before the next decade.

They’re more lenient than even Fast & Furious with their naming system. It would also be great for marketing, a good name for a reboot, and a good way to differentiate itself from the ‘09 remake. Better than the title I read was last candidate, Friday the 13th: Part 13, which would suggest that the ‘09 remake was Part 12.

As for the story, I hope they take a Halloween 2018 smart approach to it, bring it up to date, and also give it some smart, humorous self-awareness like Part VI. Maybe bring back some of the beloved Final Girls as adult mentors/alumni ala Laurie Strode. I think Adrienne King and Amy Steel would be down to return. It should represent the best of all that came before it. I’m also a fan of a snowy camp setting that someone previously suggested, but maybe save that for the sequel to the reboot.

And yes, I know Alice was killed off at the beginning of Part II, but she was originally intended to return for the whole movie, but couldn’t due to unfortunate circumstances in her life at that time, so I think it would be cool for her to come back in a big way in the reboot. This series is pretty notorious for throwing continuity out the window anyway.
Nah. That’s way too Roman numerals lol.

Keep it simple as “The 13th Friday.”

Or drill in the redundancy by calling it “Friday the 13th- Part XIII: The 13th Friday.”

I definitely consider FvJ part of the Friday franchise. Jason is the ‘good guy’, moreover the story/acting are more in keeping with the speed of Friday movies(as in bad even for the genre).

While FvJ is considered a Friday film, it plays more like a NOES sequel.

I know, it’s only that the plot is more Freddy centric. With him resurrecting Jason to make the Elm Street kids fear Freddy again.

There are 13 cases in the box set because one contains the bonus features discs, maybe you counted that as a movie?

That's been the sort of joke for years, that they've stalled out just before the 13th film.

Yeah, even though it's a part of both series, it really feels more like an Elm Street film than a Friday one because it's all based around the fall asleep=death concept.

Unhappy

When I was in high school, we (my horror-loving friends and I) wondered about how they would pull out all the stops for "Friday the 13th - Part XIII."

Decades later, and still waiting....

Victor Miller has reclaimed the domestic rights to the franchise:

Granted there still some things to clear up (Use of Jason Voorhees, only covering domestic rights), but we are definitely closer to this ending and the franchise being revived.

Unfortunately, Cunningham can still appeal it further if he so pleases, which I wouldn't put it past him to do.

FFS Sean, just let the man have the rights to HIS script.
