The 19th can't come fast enough. It's nice that they opened up the frame a little bit, curious how it would compare to a theatrical prints ar.

Oof. I already knew the color scheme on the older master was bad but these comparisons really make it look awful. It’s supposed to be set in a summer of California and in the older master it looks like it took place during the fall in Washington. As if it was all overcast. The white point is way too cool and grey. On the new one it definitely approaches a warmer tone; the colors are more natural and it looks more like sunny California. The compression is very lacking as expected from streaming but at least the colors do look pretty promising and imply a big improvement on the new transfer.

Look at the one with Gale (Courtney Cox). Goodness. Can’t wait for the 4K disc.

In all fairness, it couldn't have been set in the Summer; school was still in session.

This timeline says the events of Scream took place in October of 1996: https://scream.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline

It says that Billy was born in January 20, 1978 and Sidney was born in October 3, 1979, that's almost two years apart, yet it also says that Billy and Sidney started dating as sophomores in high school. There's no way they are in the same grade if that's their age gap.

How do we know Billy wasn't held back a grade at some point?

Are the first shots the new master? The cooler-looking one, where the frame is tighter?

Maybe it's artificial sharpening but the cooler/tighter shots seem to have more detail. Could also be that this is just the HD.

Not just a little bit. Are they allowed to do that? What about shot composition, rule of thirds etc?

I think it's more of a question if the Dvd/Blu-ray masters have been slightly cropped all these years and we've come to accept that as truth compared to what was actually the aspect ratio in theaters.

There's definitely some weird stuff going on around the corners of the frame here which may be why they cropped it in the first place but who knows.

Man the bluray looks awful! I like the colors and detail on the new transfer but I notice some DNR in those caps however when the disk is available that problem may not exist

I'm not going to pretend I have some perfect memory of it, but I did see this film many, many times in the theaters when it came out, and then on LD for a number of years, and I've always felt like the Blu-rays were a bit cramped. Particularly based on my memories of watching the LD.

I'd love to see some comparisons between the LD frame and the new 4K.

As a massive fan of the first, this is why I never upgraded from LD and DVD of the unrated cut

Oh, man. I cannot wait for this! That last comparison of Ghostface in the garage is night and day just looking at the thumbnails. There's actual color and depth on the 4K. The old blu-ray looks so drab and lifeless.

Come on, Paramount. Let's get 2 and 3 out next year, please! I'm begging you!
