While good for BR, I don't anyone should be suprised that China Film Group went with BR. What was suprising is that Acer is one of the 'top three' computer companies...

Acer is Taiwanese, no?

People expected a difference between domestic and foreign markets within China. Although the China Film Group would seem to indicate something has changed. This is an entirely domestic China operation. So, they must believe Blu-ray will succeed there.

Perhaps some big Chinese related player announcements are coming.

Yes, I believe it is... but, Taiwan is still in China... Besides, I think I just read in CNN Money (about a week ago) that Acer is buying Gateway!!! They are paying a good premium on Gateway shares and will retain the Gateway name in the U.S.

I wouldn't say that to people living in Taiwan - it is a pretty sensitive issue over there, as in whether Taiwan is really part of China. If you think HD-DVD fans are fanatics

Acer would be number 3 after they acquire Gateway.

This is a big story which came out today. So it's time to get it a boost to the top of the forums.

Kung Fu Hustle is recommended for people who haven't seen it. We lost one studio but are gaining others.

"one of China’s largest film distribution groups said it would back Blu-ray, the technology developed by Sony and Philips."
