You have Psycho II but not the original? Halloween II but not the original? That pretty much throws your list out the window.

Peeping Tom (1960)
Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
The Wolf Man (1941)
Freaks (1932)

So this isn't limited to Blu-ray releases, right?...

First off it appears you haven't truly discovered non-American horror yet. The only ones on your list were made famous in the States because of their American remake: "The Ring", "The Grudge", etc. Start queuing up Giallos immediately, any from Mario Bava (Kill Baby ... Kill!; Black Sunday), Dario Argento (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage; Suspiria; Tenebre; Deep Red) or Lucio Fulci (Lizard in a Woman's Skin; Don't Torture a Duckling; Zombi II; The New York Ripper). Then truly dig deep in the Asian horror scene, beyond the State-side commercialized stuff: Three... Extremes; anything from Takashi Miike; Evil Dead Trap; Wild Zero. Other recommended non-American horror: Who Can Kill a Child?; Dog Soldiers; Bad Taste; Dead Alive. These aforementioned titles are only the beginning, they'll help expose you to tons of new horror.

As far as US and North American horror, where's the universal monster films (Frankenstein; Creature From the Black Lagoon; Invisible Man), Herschell Gordon Lewis (Blood Feast; Two Thousand Maniacs; Color Me Blood Red; The Gore Gore Girls), George Romero (Martin; Creepshow; Night of the Living Dead; Dawn of the Dead 1978), David Cronenberg (The Brood; Videodrome), Wes Craven (ANOES; New Nightmare; The Hills Have Eyes 1977; People Under The Stairs)?

You also have to respect the grassroots film makers making self-funded movies, aka B-Horror: Drive-In Massacre, Toxic Avenger, Driller Killer, Mosquito, Splatter Farm, Redneck Zombies, Graduation Day, The Children, CHUD, Terror Firmer, and basically anything with a similar title to "The House on Sorority Row" or "Sorority House Massacre".

Then you have that entire 80s-teen scream sub-genre. It looks like you already have a good one on there, The Return of the Living Dead, but don't forget about: Prom Night (1980), Night of the Demons, Cheerleader Camp.

Other miscellanious favorites: Puppet Master, Creepshow 2, Christmas Evil, Childs Play, Hellraiser, Eraserhead (not sure if I would consider this horror, but some people do, it's definitely not traditional horror), "Silent Night, Deadly Night", Friday the 13th parts I - IV, Halloween, The Thing, They Live (a little more sci-fi than horror), The Gate, Black Christmas (1975), Tales From the Crypt (1972), Phantasm.

...And I hope your list isn't in order. "The Ring", American remake of "Ringu" the greatest horror movie? Plus "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" 2003 remake made it on your list, and ahead of the original!?

Some funny not very well thought out comments here, especially the guy who says I should throw my lis out the window because I liked Psycho II and Haloween 2 better than the originals, hey, that's my taste I'm sorry, I dont find 60's movies scary, and saw these when I was young...

To the other guy who said I havent discovered according to him, horror outside North America and laughs if they are in order, yes my selections are in order, yes Ive seen all the movies you mention and none will go on my list, The Gate lol?

Look at my other lists and you'll see I've made one called My Favorite Japanese/Asian Horror Movies. No thx for your critisisms, but thanks for your advice on old horror movies, the only really old horror movie that actually scared me a bit was the one with Vincent Price in House on Haunted Hill, with that Floating thing, was well done.

Im surprised that Saw hasn't been mentioned yet. The sequels weren't that great, but the 1st one was really well done.

Thanks

Actually, I may put them on my list, especially Halloween 1, I'll remove Jaws 2 and put Halloween for now, you guys dont find Psycho 2 scary??? That part in the basement and when his Mother comes floating up the steps in the end, scared the crap out of me when I was young. Maybe Nightmare on Elm street 1 deserves to be there too.

I'm just not into overly gross movies like Saw and Hostel, you might wonder than what Texas Chainsaw Massacres (Both versions) are doing there, I guess that one scared the crap out of me and everyone else... Getting hung alive on a meat hook is no joke lol.

Hey man, The Gate is a staple of my childhood during the late 80s. Never forget your roots. Regardless it is better than 99% of contemporary horror, and much better than a handful of the movies on your list: Return to House on Haunted Hill, Quarantine, Silent Hill, Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, The Ring 2. With tastes like that, plus posting your all-time favorite horror movie list on a message board so you can absorb other peoples opinions because you cannot properly assess movies yourself, you're not exactly warranted to judge these replies.

Like other people pointed out Halloween 2 and Psycho 2, but not the originals? And Jaws 2?... Wes Craven's only representation in your top 40 horror list is The Serpent And The Rainbow? Not necessarily a bad film, but definitely a mediocre one.

Things like The Ring and Session 9 were good horror flicks but only in perspective of this decade. In a grand view of the genre they don't hold a candle.

Not to rip on your tastes. But isn't that why you started this thread? For input?

I did add Halloween and removed Jaws 2, I think your wrong about The Texas Chainsaw Remake not being scary, I find it 100 times scarier than the original, ok not 100 maybe 10 times. That's one creepy film that gets under your skin.

As for Quarentine, I was actually looking for REC, the orignal from Spain, but Amazon doesnt have it yet. The last 10 minutes of both these movies are pretty original and scary.

The Ring will always remain a classic, even 50 years from now. A lot of people find it scary, a lot of turds still dont want to admit it though. The Ring/Ringu both are creepy to me.

And your right, Ill suck in the criticsm, since that's the reason I started this, but I was looking mostly for new movies to add/suggestions, or at least if your going to criticise, at least tell me which ones you agree that should be on my list, you cant tell me none, because that would be funny.

The Gate, lol, It's a part of my youth too, the sequels killed it off though, just like Child's play. I respect your choice, everyone has their tastes, heck ill respect anyone who thinks the descent is scary, especially if your claustrophobic.

I will take a closer look at some of the ones you named, I seem to remember a lot of them, especially the 80's ones.

Would you happen to remember The Beach! Was a cool early 80's flick, and does anyone remember which movie this part was from, I remember watching it like in 1979-1982 and being totally freaked out, it was 2 people inside a cabin in the woods, with some type of lagoon creature or demon, some hand or scratching came from under the floor than the roof I think, I never figured out what movie that was.....

Dog Soldiers was a pretty cool werewolf movie. As for those messed up ones like zombi II, I actually had it on my list, than decided to not add anything too gory, I'm not that into gore, that's why I avoid the B-Movies, one of those can mess up your week, lol.

Trying to stick with what works without too many body parts flying out of my tv and genitals hanging upside down on every corner.

I dont think Saw was an overly gross movie. I think the sequels failed to capture what made the first movie good (similar to most sequels) and were generally more about the gore just like Hostel.

Based on your list, i'm really surprised you dont have Audition there. I'm not much into japanese horror and even less into the American remakes, but Audition was the one that left the biggest impression.

How about The Host?

Dude, given what I'm reading on here of what your into I don't know if you can handle Martyrs. I've seen both the R-rated and unrated versions and even the R-rated one was a tough watch. If you can handle The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (both versions) why not try The Hills Have Eyes (both versions).
