When I first discovered DW, it was during Tom's final season (so Davison was MY Doctor). I already knew him from "All Creatures..." so I was looking forward to it. But here he is starting off saddled with two whiny companions, and only Nyssa to keep his sanity.

Still a shame to me that Tegan was the one that got the long run with Doc 5 instead of Nyssa. At least Big Finish expanded on the time frame between Time Flight and Arc of Infinity.

I wonder if spoiled sweaty oik Chinballs felt the same way when he was venting his ire against John Nathan-Turner and Pip & Jane Baker?

He always said that a single companion like Nyssa would have been his preferred choice and also that he wouldn’t have minded carrying on when Nicola was cast and they went back down to a single companion, but then again he dodged the bullet that Colin got. Although that gun may well have been loaded by Liza Goddard.

Yeah, that was my other regret... that he didn't get to have a good run with Peri. Again, Big Finish to the rescue there.

Ha Ha ... Karma.

Terror of the Vervoids is more fun than any DOCTOR WHO excreted by Chinballs.

I hadn't seen "Trial of a Time Lord" since the VHS days, but since I just got the McCoy first series set, I decided to watch the two series in a row. "Trial" is a lot more enjoyable than I remembered it. Bringing Robert Holmes back was a classy move by Eric Saward, lots of good, snappy dialogue with Glitz and Dibber, Sil and Yrcanos are a lot of fun, and even "Vervoids", a standard whodunnit, puts a smile on my face.

Fave companion from Nu Who?

I like all of them - have a thing for Billie (met her at a convention once) and I love Redheads and her Scottish accent, so Karen is great.

But I think I'd have to go with Jenna. In addition to being gorgeous, I liked her character the best. Rose was always fawning over the Doctor, Amy basically doing the same thing although less of a romantic angle. So I loved how Clara just did her own thing with a take it or leave it attitude. It was a refreshing break from the norm.

Screenshots from Doctor Who: Spearhead from Space Blu-ray

Starring Tom Baker in his sixth season as the Fourth Doctor, this set includes stories:

• DESTINY OF THE DALEKS
• CITY OF DEATH
• THE CREATURE FROM THE PIT
• NIGHTMARE OF EDEN
• THE HORNS OF NIMON
• SHADA

Interesting if unexpected.
Wait...wasn't Shada one of the 'lost' episodes they recreated with animation??? That'd be included in the set?

Technically none of the Hartnell, Troughton or Pertwee episodes were lost - they were junked by the BBC.

Character-wise, I think that Clara has the most interesting arc in the series for a companion. Jenna was able to sell Clara's complexities and made it really root for her.

I've met all three before at conventions, and Jenna was the best. She took time to chat and seemed genuinely happy to meet fans. When I met Karen, she was running late and constantly in a rush, but was nice enough. Billie on the other hand didn't even bother making eye contact, let alone conversation with, she was far too busy talking to her handlers.

I can imagine them all being as you said.

Last time I met any of the cast it was Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann. They were all appearing together at the Leicester Space Centre and I had a photo with them all but it was very rushed doing the photo so I decided to go and get autographs afterwards. They’d been doing autographs in the morning and it was quite busy but by the time it got around to the afternoon it was much quieter and they were very happy to chat for awhile. I actually bumped into Sylvester on the way back from his photos and walked through the centre chatting with him. I’d met him many years previously when the fate of the show had been up in the air and we had a chat about that.

I talked to Peter about how I’d enjoyed the interview with him on the Blu Ray set and he said he couldn’t remember much about it and that it had been a scorching day when they recorded it.

I’d met Colin some years earlier after the Ultimate Adventure stage play and had offered him a jelly baby and soon found out that he loathed them and I;d mentioned that.

And Paul was trying to convince me that he could still be the Doctor and he’d never really left.
