Probably the same release date as the one for Italy.

Oh well. Lots more bollox to correct between now and then in this thread I guess. As for what the UHD does/doesn't look like I won't be able to comment on, but the rest...

It looks like Edition #1 has been dispatched (it’s due to be with me by Friday) with Edition #2 and the complete set delayed until next month.

I’m quite relieved as this was shaping up to be a very expensive month.

Does the 35mm camera original still exist, albeit not physically edited together and minus all the VFX tweaks as described by John Dykstra here: https://www.awn.com/vfxworld/dykstra...ious-basterds? Sure it does. But do studios rebuild 2K DIs shot on film into 4K on a regular basis? Nooooooope. So why that was expected to happen for this film I've no idea. No wait, I know exactly why: because people don't have a fookin clue
Is it at all possible the rumored Arrow release that seemingly never happened could still be in the works and that kind of restoration could take place?

No. This was what would have been an Arrow release. But Universal just released it themselves.

Still hoping Arrow might be giving us the Cannes cut. As far as I know they haven't mentioned that their release is canceled, and last I heard, Francesco mentioned it was still on Twitter. Same with The Wolf of Wall Street. We'll see I guess.

Still, nothing dramatically AV wise shall change with that.

Yeah but that one poster in here who kept whining didn't fund to have the film reels scanned, edited down to the exact edit for an actual OCN and have this release be native 4k. This can only be a terrible release.

The main problem is while technically possible, this movie won't sell enough copies to justify the cost of an extensive restoration , FX 4k re render or re-edit, etc. It's a good movie but its not going to sell at the level of most of the other 4k restorations where such undertakings were completed.

Arrow couldn't even justify the cost of a 4k UHD release of legend despite having a 4k master , no way they are gonna do all of the above work if it didn't make sense for a much more wealthy universal

It might, as Arrow tends to tweak things around. Still, I don't think it would be a huge difference in the long run. Either way, I would like to be able to own the Cannes cut at some point.

I’m so confused as to why there’s all this Twitter outrage over the fact that this is a 2K DI… like, this is extremely old and well worn news, so why the kerfluffle over this title in particular? Do these people demand full 4K rebuilds of all those Marvel movies? Because most of those are also 2K DIs.

The fact is that there IS more resolution in a 4K UHD presentation of a 2K DI, and sometimes it’s quite a substantial difference. Besides, even if it’s just a “slight uptick,” HDR is such a larger part of the equation anyway.

Because most people make no effort to learn about the thing they are complaining about, they just want something to scream into the void about.

I’ll agree with him that a 2k intermediate of this is bad if it is possible to upgrade it through the original camera negatives because I heard this was done on 35mm is that true?
