It's a good one! There are licensing and materials issues that may be insurmountable, alas.

Man, what a fantastic flick! Being a kid of the 70s, I totally enjoyed it. Absolute flashback to a groovy, bygone era. Bruce Dern's interview in the extras was cool, too. Another great blind buy for me from Fun City.

Is it too soon to know about how many releases from FCE are planned for in 2022?

I guess this is a case of 80's ignorance and not really 'a miss'. You were right about it not being translated originally. I would have liked to have had it done in 2021 as it wouldn't have taken much effort since the subtitles were created anyhow, but it is what it is. Still happy to own this.
It's mentioned in the Jonathan Kaplan interview on the disc...

They were never meant to be subtitled in English, and you really would not even want all of the spoken Japanese to be subtitled in Death Ride To Osaka. What the actors actually conversed in Japanese (in at least one scene) wasn't scripted or even remotely about the scene/movie. It was apparently a problem when it was originally released for any viewers were fluent in Japanese. One actor could also only speak his Japanese lines phonetically.

It would definitely be kind of odd watching Mako and Soon-Tek in a heated scene talking about always being continually stereotyped with Oriental acting roles.

@jah13 how is the "retail" version of Primetime Panic (coming out in two weeks) packaged? The only version listed on the VS site is the site-exclusive hard box.

From a few pages back.

It's fine. It was such a quick conversation that got lost real fast. I only remembered because I was part of it.

Do you have access to A Cold Night's Death? That is an excellent TV movie set in an isolated arctic-ike setting with lots of snow. Most reviewers gave it an above average review. It falls into the science fiction and horror genre.

That's with Disney, so no unfortunately.

Spectre is almost certainly with Disney also, being a Fox production.

It's very strange to me that some of the scenes were even shot if that's the case. I believe what you're saying to be true, but as mentioned earlier there's a scene with just the gangsters (or whatever you want to call them) in a meeting and 90% of the dialog is in Japanese. The scene serves no purpose as it lasts around 30 seconds and I guess nobody, including the Japanese, have any idea what they were discussing or why they were meeting. They were just standing / sitting and talking.

It's quite possible lol. Perhaps in the Vinegar Syndrome thread? (given they have their own dedicated Televised Terror strand now, I'm guessing any horror movies will come through that line, with Fun City focusing on more varied material).

Believe me I want as many 70s TV horror/sci-fi movies as possible, but unfortunately most of the famous ones are tied up with the major studios, namely Disney, Paramount/CBS and Universal (and even then, a number will have major clearance issues, possibly elements ones also).

I think our best hope for Disney-owned TV movies is if Kino can ever agree another deal with them. We know they had more from their first deal but had to drop them due to clearance issues. I would not be at all surprised if the likes of The Midnight Hour and A Cold Night's Death were among these, as Kino would be aware of their popularity. Of course, it remains to be seen if the circumstances would be different if Kino made another deal with Disney, but their dealings with MGM and Universal over the years have shown us that previously unavailable titles can be cleared over time, so there's always hope.
