I don't think so... Gaumont use their own masters and usually take good care of the PQ.

This is great news. For me, the director's cut is the only version of this film worth watching. I'm really banking on this being region free so I can add it to my Blu-ray library.

I've been keeping my eye on that upcoming release, but I didn't expect a UK release so soon. I might have to wait and hear more details on this version of Leon to compare the two. Although that French release is damn tempting. Thank you though.

It has just been by the French magazine Les années laser (but only the movies are region free, not the bonus material)!

The entire disc would have to be region-free. There's no such thing as region-encoded extras. It's possible that the extras are PAL, in which case they wouldn't work on most Region A players.

There is a subtle difference in sharpness but other than that they are very similar, and clearly from the same contrasty transfer with blown-out whites that I hope we won't see on this release.
