Now I have seen it all, someone who actually wants player generated subs. And there’s at least one German on this forum who won’t thank you for speaking for him. Andreas…assemble!

Yes i want it, burned subtitles are awful, for example german guy putting german subs on french dialogue, causing two subtitles on the screen, top and bottom!

and people that are bilingual!

If people are bilingual then they’d be okay!

We have Blu-ray.com review. I guess FaH Guy can look stupid at his video review. I unsubscribed from his channel after that review. I realized he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s just a guy with a tv.

Just finished watching IG 4K, very nice for the most part! The HDR is excellent, though I did find the black level a bit elevated, after lowering -10 the image looked spot on. Got BBY to match down to $20.99, for that I feel it was a decent upgrade.

Not really a very good defense but okay.

From the review:
Quote:
NEW! The New York Times Talks (1080p, 1:08:07): This piece did not appear on the original Blu-ray. It is a lengthy chat with Tarantino from August 14, 2009. With Moderator Lynn Hirschberg.
Nation's Pride - Full Feature (1080p, 6:10).
1080p encoded but not in 1080p resolution. Still SD. Same applies to the previous released SD content.

He put his hat in the ring but lost. I skipped through the 4K last night and it is worth the upgrade. It hasn’t got the wow factor to me but it’s solid. The thing is it’s the only disc I’ve got where I put the hdr level down to 0 from usually 4-6 on my Panasonic 820. The disc doesn’t deserve the hate it’s got. It’s just that expectations are so high.

The New York Times Talks Extra
It was previously available on a DVD bonus disc with Best Buy Blu-ray Amaray exclusive that was released in 2009

It's on the 4K UHD disc only not the Blu-ray disc

The Blu-ray disc in the 4K UHD release is the existing disc from 2009

What's with this? Like it's so easy to re-do effects in 4K? This is more a news site than a review site....

From the UHD-BD review on blu-ray.com:

Quote:
Viewers are first going to note the positive impact that the HDR color grading has on the picture. [...] The black is clearly deeper [...]
Whoever wrote this, is he serious???

The UHD-BD has incorrect levels and/or raised black levels starting with the very first frame while the BD had perfect blacks throughout. So how exactly is this "clearly deeper blacks" when it's literally the opposite? lmao

I have no problem with anything he said.

He states it is per usual for these type of catalog titles.

You are getting a 2k upscale, the complete bare minimum.

It is not to say it will look bad but how much better could it look?

I wonder, at the time, should a 4k scan been created from the beginning?
Is there a rule with not having a 2k DI for theater presentation and a 4k for special release (70mm, etc)?

Wasn't WB scanning their catalog to 4k at this time?

It is not usual for catalogue titles AT ALL. Hunt is getting confused between catalogue movies that were finished out to film getting 4K transfers and movies finished to 2K digital masters. Rebuilds of the latter are extremely rare.

I finally ordered mine from Amazon after reading this site's review and seeing the $20.84 price. (Could have done a PM at Best Buy, but next-day delivery is good enough for me.) Not sure if it's Gruv, the bad reviews, or both that are bringing the price down.

Sure I was disappointed by FAH's review, and I do like his reviewing style because he comes across as an ordinary guy who likes movies. Still, you have to understand that ANY review is only an OPINION, no matter how experienced the reviewer is -- and FAH definitely isn't as experienced a reviewer as most of the ones here, whose reviews I've been reading for over a decade. You have to weigh the reviews appropriately; for example FAH is a horror movie fan, but I'm not unless it's mixed in with another genre (Alien, Silence of the Lambs -- speaking of which I'm waiting on its 4K).

Yes, it's an upscale from a 2K DI; but unless Universal (or the latest successor to TWC, seems to change every few months) calls in the OCN reels from the salt mine & then brings in Tarantino to make a fresh 4K DI (if not a photochemical finish), it ain't gonna get any better than this. And even if you do part of that, as Peter Jackson did with LOTR (it was my understanding he got Weta Digital to redo some of its CGI, mostly on FOTR, but other elements were rescanned or even upscaled), the result can be controversial. Also, I've always said HDR is a bigger deal for 4K than the 4K resolution itself; though I don't have a top-of-the-line 4K TV it does have HDR10+ like this disc (and my UB820), and from reading this thread it seems FAH doesn't know to turn off DV for non-DV discs on his Sony player (I knew that back when I owned an X700).

In addition, I lost my IB BD in a move five years ago; same for my old LOTR BDs. Though I did get the LOTR 4Ks, I just replaced my EE BDs as it looks like the original BDs are going OOP in favor of BDs from the 4K remaster; might wanna do something similar for the TE BDs as well (especially ROTK as it's a Best Picture winner & I wanna get as close as possible to the film that won the Oscar). With the BD in this set being the original from 2009, this release replaces my lost disc one-for-one and then some.

Yeah, I stopped reading his site a while ago. I check in ever so often for news, which is what it basically is. A news site.

The same reviewer also reviewed the Star Trek 4K set & claimed the black levels on TMP were greatly improved, but I just watched parts of TMP myself last night & saw plenty of bad black levels, even to the point that during the short overture I was wondering if my player was on the fritz because the "black" screen was so bright in my darkened room. Even my relatively cheap quantum-dot LED set can show true blacks, but that overture definitely wasn't in true black.
