It is impossible to both care about aspect ratio continuity and show the film in IMAX's AR.

The Ws haven't been keen on plot and other forms of narrative continuity, so what's another continuity to play fast and loose with to 'em?

You are wrong, seeing as the majority of movie goers will NOT see the movie in IMAX. They will see it in a regular theater. And the producers know that.

Have you ever made a prediction/speculation that came true?

Moving the goalposts might be a cool effect to see in 3d, but it's looking mighty lame here in 2D.

I don't know who is prognosticating here, I'm spitballing suggestions. Since the Ws have been pretty much pulling their ideas from a hat for the past 20 years, I'm hoping someone like minded slipped mine in and the Ws have pulled it.

Frankly, the aspect ratio going forward should be 16:9 as that's how films are increasingly viewed. It's also close to IMAX. Alternatively they should be made to fit the most common phone aspect ratios as, despite David Lynch's fight against it, that's where too many view their movies.

Personally, I found the framing of the Matrix trilogy to be too tight. It's as if almost all shots are medium or closeups. The headshots are almost always cropped above the eyebrows/forehead. The movies never felt "widescreen" to me but definitely had a cropped/tightened aspect to them. It's the same with Spider-Man 2; heads getting cropped out and framing appearing very tight. I guess that's how Bill Pope likes to compose images. But when a mainstream epic blockbuster film is in widescreen, I expect the images to actually have a sense of expansiveness rather than being constricted. I hope John toll makes the frames look larger than what Bill Pope did.

So we shouldn’t cook any gourmet food because the masses go to McDonald’s?

I’m not thrilled with the title of the new Matrix, but I am holding my breath and my judgment... I almost can’t believe it’s happening!

May have been influenced by Sergio Leone's style of closeup that he used in the Dollars Trilogy.

Trailer looks incredible and it would look even more immersive in 3D, but there is no mention of 3D anywhere, even in the description of the trailer. A 3D version is mentioned in the Technical Specs on the IMDb page (credits to Lee A Stewart), so let's see if we get to see a 3D version in the end.

Hoping it's not cancelled just like how WB cancelled Mortal Kombat's 3D release because it's rated R... this film has not been rated yet, assuming it will be R because the other films were rated the same.

I doubt this will be getting a 3d release. I can't find any stereo credits in the company or crew sections on IMDB. The D Cinema(3d version) might be pure speculation.

Yeah. I knew it too, instinctively, that they would shoot digital and grade it that way. But it's still sad to see them chose digital over film.

Matrix 4 is an all digital prodution. No film used. The camera's sensor is 1.78 AR. So IMAX showings will matte it to 1.90 while regular theaters will show it with a 2.39 matte.

Why is the IMAX film camera referred to as "15/70"? Aren't we talking about 15 perforations of 65mm film? Like Todd-AO/Ultra Panavision/Super Technirama, etc., isn't 70mm film used only in the release format, never in the camera?

The original IMAX is 15/70. They are using the print size to convey the format: 15 perf/ 70mm. What goes into the camera is 65mm film. It's no different than all the other 70mm formats: shoot on 65mm, release on 70mm.

One of the few formats to acknowledge shooting in 65mm was MGM's Camera 65 (Ben Hur 1959). This would become Ultra Panavision 70.

The only film format that actually used 70mm as the camera negative was 70mm Grandeur film, also called Fox Grandeur or Grandeur 70 (1929). It used 70mm 4 perf in the camera. But this was different than current 70mm. The perfs were larger so the exposed image was about equal to today's 70mm 5 perf.

Back to IMAX. Today there are two different IMAX formats: IMAX 15/70 (1.43 AR) and IMAX Digital (1.90 AR)

'Fantastic Beasts 3' has an official title, called 'Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore', releasing on April 15, 2022. Really looking forward to this... hoping for a 3D release as well.

A part of the trailer for the upcoming 'Uncharted' film has been leaked and the visuals look very apt for 3D. The trailer is coming very soon, and at the end it's mentioned that it's releasing "Exclusively in Premium Formats". Hoping RealD 3D is one of them.

The new trailer for "Uncharted" is here... no mention of 3D for now.
This would look fantastic in 3D though.

That could be very cool in 3D, but premium formats could just mean 4DX 2D, Dolby cinema, that new ScreenX format (which I cannot imagine has anything like the immersion of actual 3D, what a pointless format to push when 3D exists lol)

I mean, Venom 2's advertising also had the "In Premium Formats" tag and RealD 3D was also one of them, so we can also include that in the "Premium Formats" section.

Same here, I really don't get the ScreenX thing. It's distracting when you have to look left and right to not miss out on details. Is ScreenX 3D a thing in the US or the country anyone lives in? Because in India, we have ScreenX 3D and I doubt anyone goes for it.

Not sure about screenx 3D here. I don’t even think you miss out on details, my assumption is they use CGI to ‘stretch’ out the image, like maybe a car going off screen would appear there momentarily but it’s all designed to peripheral so none of it is essential details. Also, not sure about other movies but in No Time To Die, for the screenx release apparently only ‘selected sequences’ were available in ScreenX which just makes it even weirder to me lol.

I do think there’s a good chance Uncharted is releasing in 3D because it’s got the same director as Venom and all the reputable sites are now reporting RealD. I made a thread for it, and I’m excited to see the movie as a fan of the games, and I hope RSM can give us a home release

Uncharted looks sick. They even got the plane scene in! Really hope that's in 3D.
