MEL DV is beneficial as well for the dynamic metadata. You could always remove the device from the chain when you don't "need" it, but there's really no reason to do so. Plus it acts as a repeater which is extremely useful for a long HDMI run. |

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but I was reading the review for this on the digital bits just now and noticed there are some easter eggs on the 2 Blu Ray discs: https://thedigitalbits.com/item/hall...cream-2021-uhd
Went looking through the other BDs and noticed there is also one on the Halloween II Blu Ray, but not on any of the others. Last edited by mad_max2000; 10-26-2021 at 02:43 AM. |

Sorry for getting on your nerves again, just to be clear, this is the sign everyone is talking about, right?

That sign is surrounded by green foliage! Of course it's going to have a green tint/cast to it. Not only that, just by looking at the light falling on it, it's certainly not direct sunlight...making the color temperature of the light even more cooler (or bluer.) "Sunny daylight (as in, standard middle-of-a-cloudless-day lighting) is a bit colder...Cloudy light is colder still, and shady light is very cold." https://www.photoworkout.com/color-t...n-photography/ It's very obvious there's no direct sunlight...it's all soft. Sure there is shade under the trees but if there was direct sunlight out there, all of that shading would mostly look black (we wouldn't be able to see as much detail in the shade as we do here.) Look at Jamie, she's not casting any shadow because the light is all soft (sun behind clouds.) It's possible it might be partly cloudy (some clear blue sky mixed with some clouds that cover the sun every now and then, but it looks to me during that shot, everything is dulled down and the lighting in most part looks even. In real life a RR sign will look dull under clouds. Even so, with the naked eye that sign will look more yellow, but photographed with daylight film under that type of lighting (cloudy being even more colder...bluer) will exaggerate onto film what we see in real life. Now take that RR sign and surround it with lots of green foliage under soft cloudy light and record that onto daylight film and what we end up with is what you see. That whole scene is soft which in many ways is ideal for photography. Once captured with low contrast (which contains all details in dark and bright areas) it is then possible to adjust the final results to one's liking whether it be low or high contrast, low or high color saturation and of course shifting of colors. Anyone can experiment with a film camera. Take a picture onto daylight film of a yellow sign in shade surrounded by green foliage and see how it turns out. With a digital camera the results will turn out similar if subject and conditions are the same (with the digital camera's white point or color balance) set at 6500K. |

The movie looks good. A little dark and contrasty in places. Some colours look weird compared with some existing releases. Like the grass and the roof tiles in the opening Haddonfield/Halloween daytime shot. Seemed quite close to the old criterion colour timing with boosted saturation and contrast.
But generally it's an improvement on the Lionsgate. |

For folks who own the 15 disc blu ray set from SF and don't want to upgrade to 4K (I've been upgrading since VHS and blu ray is my last stop), is it worth buying these releases for the blu ray transfers? Are they significantly different/better than the ones used for the collection boxset? I know H4 is much improved but what about this one and the others?

Ok, is it just me or are the three audio tracks on this sort of lacking any juice. I mean, they're fine and get the job done, but after watching 'Season of the Witch' first, then going to this, yeah, it feels like night and day. Is that just how the mix is for this film?

The Criterion laserdisc sounds great, much better then any release that came after. If I had to guess Criterion created a new mono from M/D/E stems which would explain why no one else has included that track. But I've never found a good source to confirm.
