I may not be "hard core", but I'm a gamer and I like to watch movies.

6 PS3 games.
22 Blu-Ray movies.

proving the point, another PS3 owner buying a crap load of BD movies, thank you Cyorg!

I almost expect some kind of a withdrawal statement on HDDVD's behalf to kiss ass to all the 360 gamers who own the add on player

It was a rather unusual statement considering that Microsoft is currently marketing a 360 add-on capable of playing HD-DVD's.

Ya, and that's qualifies as a 'stand-alone player'. Because the only function it has is to play HD-DVDs... Even though it can't stand alone.

It's all about comparing tomatoes and tomatillos.

PS3 is a standalone player, because it plays out of the box

360 is not, because it requires a 360 to function

I thought "standalone" means that the product can only do that, what its supposed to do... but the PS3 is gaming also...

That would be "dedicated"

You're another example that shows Graffeo doesn't know what the heck he's talking about.

It always seems to be about drumming up hatred toward Blu-ray, the PS/3, etc. with those guys.

When he complains about attach rates () he fails to see the huge marketing opportunity the PS/3 represents. Well to do (they paid $500-$1000 for these things) purchasers of premium disc media. And he wants to continually ditz and ignore them.

Instead, what he really wants is to try to sell combo discs to some guy that purchased a $149 player. Because that guy really wants to pay $5 extra over an already premium price for his movies.

You got that right! I love how he always counts the PS3 when calculating disc attach rates, but he DOESN'T count the PS3 when talking about number of Blu-ray players in households.

Ken Graffeo = Butt Monkey. I hereby dub Ken Graffeo forevermore, K.G.B.M!

Edit: May just shorten it to B.M. - you know, for efficiency's sake.

All this s*it is sooooooo funny!
Between IFA this week and CEDIA next week, we can really THEN determine what comes out in the wash.
But I can say this about CEDIA: There WILL be a LOT of Blu announcements in Denver next week. Maybe that's why CEDIA is in Denver this year. Why? Because Blu is at the top!!!

Look at it this way - if gamers didn't buy movies, how come Blu-ray sells over twice as many discs? That would mean that the attach rate would be way better than HD DVD's.

In return I will give you "B.O.G" on Bluray! hehehe! hold on let me pull it out of my azz!!!

But seriously, if someone in the Denver area has extra passes please let me know!

Let's hope that the so-called "The Butt of IFA Jokes" also carries over to CEDIA here in the states.
