And yes, it was massively over-rated, imo. People were raving about the fight scenes but if you've seen even a few martial arts films, there was nothing special or innovative about them (not to mention that you'd already seen most of them in the trailers). Simu Liu seems like a nice guy but he can't carry a movie. The story was confusing and fundamentally undramatic. And whilst I can't exactly comment on representation, I feel like if I was Chinese I'd be a bit pissed off with all the cliches on show.

I used to read the comic and I'd have much preferred them to go the more ENTER THE DRAGON route. If ETERNALS is a dud, that'll be 0/3 for me in Phase 4 and I'll be officially worried for the MCU.

I'm wondering how many times Disney writers will use this stupid trick.
Shang chi is a bundle of acts that are not that coherant with each other. I would also like Disney to stay away from wars and such if they are going to dilute the violence down to that acceptable for a 6 year old.

The steelbook is pretty meh. I hate it when the theme of the movie is completely ignored on the cover, instead putting the star of the movie on the front cover instead. Most Tom Cruise and Will Smith movies seem to have their mug shot on every cover as well.
If I ever felt so ambivalent about any movie, I would not just buy it at all... why reward someone when you don't think highly of their work?

Seriously, tho, as someone who was originally ambivalent about the MCU, their movies just keep getting better and better. Shang-Chi takes us somewhere that CBM have never take us before, and it is also the first of its kind to have a predominantly Asian cast, which alone makes it a very worthwhile addition to the genre.

I'm not an expert is martial arts movies, but I've seen all the major ones over the years and this one totally blew me away, we've not seen action like this in CBMs before, at least not that I can remember.

There's a lot going on underneath the surface of the film, many themes that are explored very beautifully but you seem to have missed the forest for the trees... there are many layers to the film at it's sad that you didn't get past the most superficial one...
