Good news! About time we're able to buy an uncut version of the jolly boys outing. so annoying that the dvd version of the best ever episode was cut, especially when it is always broadcast uncut on tv

so the next question is will the entire uncut show be released on bluray? I guess it depends on how this boxset sells

Hopefully this is to test the waters and it sells well enough

Back of the box says both, so it’ll be like Doctor Who, remastered film where available, upscaled SD where not.

We have to hope it's a Doctor Who quality upscale and not a Fawlty Towers quality upscale, but pre-ordered anyway as I want to retire my collection of bootleg uncut episodes from DVD-R hell.

Someone over on the roobarb's forum thinks its being Produced by 'The Ark'
who did the Blu Ray restorations of 'Day of the Triffids' and 'Smiley's People'.

I rather enjoyed the Fawlty Towers BDs, not gonna lie. They could've gone easier on the noise reduction but at the same time the eradication of the composite dot crawl and moiré made it surprisingly watchable for me. And the actual HD film inserts look superb (though some are still upscaled, presumably because they couldn't find the OG film).

So if this Only Fools set is similar then I'll be happy with that. If it's betterer then great, that's a bonus.

Hopefully these are fully uncut as there have been numerous cuts including ones for music rights issues

Let's hope they are fully uncut, with intact music etc.

Nice to see the cut scenes being restored. From what I can recall, "A Royal Flush" was the most heavily cut. The version that's been available all these years is nearly 20 minutes shorter than the original. "To Hull and Back" was shot entirely on film.

The longer version was in the magazine DVD set they did. I'll still keep that set as there is an image across the spine and it's a nice collector's item, but I don't need to keep the standard releases of these episodes that I bought afterwards

Yes orderable with a U.K. address.
Standard Amazon policy these days to block preorders by those overseas.

A Royal Flush was later re-edited (cut) by John Sullivan; Jolly Boys Outing was cut due to music rights, and To Hull and Back was later cut due to non-PC language.

However, the back of this box states "The content was originally broadcast from 1985 - 1989 and reflects the language and attitudes of the time".

So, these specials seem to be uncut.

Hmmm...

Their love of high DNR levels isn't the only thing that can go wrong. Remember in addition the filmized VT on Triffids and the iffy grading on Tinker/Smiley?

Seeing their name attached to this has stopped me even thinking of pre-ordering.

It'd really rub salt in to see the series finally given the love it deserves on physical media only for the remastering to be slapdash and heavy-handed. My only hope is they've took on board previous criticism and improved things.
