Indeed... People often forget this!

Playback then begins in the Dolby Vision program without any HDR10 content being played first. I also found this to work on the UHD HDR Benchmark disc's Dolby Vision Demo Material.
Not all discs resume tho

I was thinking that was dependent upon the authoring of the disc, but I didn't remember for sure if that was the case with 4K UHD. I do think it's going to be the very rare disc that has the DV content in combination with an HDR10 menu, so hopefully all those will be authored with the ability to resume. What I really wish is that Oppo Digital in Menlo Park, CA was still 100% and working on the DV issues with the UDP-203.

Still the case with 4K UHD. Some discs won’t resume period.

They really do seem determined to kill the format, don't they?

Meh. Paramount don’t do resume, doesn’t matter the format.

Any DVD does because it’s a player led process. But in the HD/UHD era the programming on the disc (BDJ) can override the player led resume feature, meaning that the disc has to have a specific resume function authored for it. So if the disc has BDJ and has no resume feature either then it will not resume, not now, not ever, and that applies to virtually all Paramount BDs and UHDs ever created. So it’s a bit late to carp on about it “killing a format” when it’s been that way for 15 years.

Been looking into getting this but I have Questions: will I need a bunch of adjustment tools to use with this or can I go by eye?

And how has been everyone's experiences with it?

I still have my classic Disney WoW disc but it just doesn't seem to help with my Samsung UN55RU7300FXZA

Thanks as always

First of all, those “calibration” discs are not calibration. Merely setup disc. You need calibrated instruments to do calibration

Second, most “calibration” discs were designed for REC709 colourspace with 2.2 gamma. Not UHD BT2020 colourspace.

What I've found out so far is that Studio Canal and Blue Underground are the main culprits of the HDR10 menus and DV main feature. At least the discs i own from them all resume playback. In the other hand, didn't Stacey mentioned a while back on this thread (Can't find it) that the issue corrects itself after playing it for 30 seconds or so?

Could you please elaborate what you mean by "corrects itself"? Are we talking about the DV issue in Oppo players?

Is there a new version for uhd coming or just a restock? We were thinking of ordering the existing disc, which was just restocked on amazon this week. But if a new version is in the works...

Yes they’re working on an updated version, nothing from Stacey on a release date afaik. I think they’ve been working more than a year on the new content.

Any BDMV disc should resume naturally. BD-J, like HDi, does not resume unless you write code to force it to resume.

An update on the disc. David has re-authored disc 1 twice and may be starting over for a 3rd time. Once the project gets past a certain point, he can no longer save or mux. The format supports 9999 files and we are only halfway there. Scenarist agreed to look at it and received a copy 4+ weeks ago and as far as we know, have not looked at it yet. David has figured out a work around.

David went ahead and authored the SDR disc. I will start testing it this weekend. This is the disc with all of the Atmos / DTS-X audio as well. It does not fit on the HDR disc.

Now that I can test the SDR disc, I have had to re-encode a couple of patterns already and will probably have to redo a few more. I should knock those out next week, once I go through all of the content.

We had a 3/4 muxed version of disc 1 at the Value Electronics TV Shootout in October.

At this point, best guess is Q2 2022. Assuming David's work around for authoring disc 1 fully works.

It is cool to be able to turn tone mapping on and off in Dolby Vision on-the-fly. We included this for all of the Window patterns and 5-6 patterns in a specialty section that also includes HDR10 with metadata set to 0 nits.

Part of disc 1 (Skin tones and Sarah on a Hammock) were bumped to the montage disc since we ran out of space on disc 1.
