I’ve never purchased from Japan before. Planning to get both Black Widow and Shang Chi together to cut down on shipping. What is meant by the subtitles post in the main post of this thread? I can still watch the movie in English with no subtitles correct?

In Black Widow, the Russian parts don't have English subtitles on-screen, so you'll have to switch on the subtitles for them. If the Russian parts are not a problem for you, you can watch the film without subtitles.

It might be the case for Shang-Chi with some parts of the film being in Mandarin, but we'll have to wait and see for that.

The options with this release are:

You can watch the movie English subtitles turned off, that means no English subtitles for all the foreign language dialogue.

You can watch the movie without subtitles but manually turn on the English subtitle track any time foreign dialogue is spoken (this might mean also having to rewind anytime foreign dialogue starts in case you miss the first line).

You can watch the movie with English subtitles turned on for the duration. This means you will have to endure English subtitles for all of the English dialogue as well as the foreign.

You can watch the movie with English subtitles turned on for the duration but manually turn the English subtitles off any time English dialogue is spoken.

4 exciting ways to view this movie, take your pick.

I downloaded the script for Black Widow, here are examples of some of the Russian dialogue:

(TOY SPEAKING RUSSIAN)
(SPEAKING RUSSIAN) Forgive me mom. I’m scared.
(SPEAKING RUSSIAN) I will shoot.
(SPEAKING RUSSIAN) I will shoot. Don’t touch her.

I'm sure someone somewhere has a list of the non-English dialogue with translations.... and there was also a line in Hungarian! A cheat sheet with translations and time points would be great. Maybe next time i watch it I'll take notes.

Did everyone see the news about Disney + providing "IMAX Enhanced" versions of the MCU films on their streaming service? I wonder if Shang-Chi will release with that version on physical in 3D? Sounds like they worked out a deal with IMAX in releasing the IMAX versions for home viewing for all their releases. Hoping this also becomes a standard for all studios releases.

Yep, the IMAX versions of 13 MCU films, including "Avengers: Infinity War", "Avengers: Endgame", "Shang-Chi", "Iron Man" and many more will be available to stream on Disney+ from 12 November. Hoping we get IMAX 3D scenes for Shang-Chi on 3D Blu-ray.

Hopefully this news means Marvel/Disney/IMAX will be less cagey with their expanded presentations from now on. Just hope it doesn’t become a Disney Plus exclusive.

I think the IMAX Versions are exclusive for Disney+
They want to push their streaming service.

That's the reason why i deleted my Post here about the IMAX Versions at Disney+

Btw its so ridiculous:

I'd pay a Premium price for Avengers Infinity War and endgame for a IMAX 3D Blu-ray. But they dont want to pay IMAX so much.
And NOW they release many IMAX Versions at Disney+... in 2D/4K FOR FREE

Oh yes, this is almost certainly going to be a Disney+ exclusive thing. IMAX gets royalties from every sale of an IMAX enhanced/aspect ratio release so they’ll want to justify that by holding the expanded ratio hostage on streaming to get more signups.

I could see them releasing an extra expensive IMAX enhanced 4K box set one day, but the chances of us ever getting movies that were exclusively in IMAX ratio like Infinity War on 3D Blu-ray are close to zero I imagine.

If Disney ever sees fit to release an IMAX Enhanced 4K boxset of Infinity War/Endgame, and Disney Japan releases a localized version of that boxset, I could see them including an enhanced version of the 3D Blu-ray. MovieNEX releases already require some re-authoring anyway.

IMAX expanded will be on the 3D Blu-Ray too like they have pretty much been since IMAX started with MCU.

Not true. Movies with occasional IMAX ratio scenes are not considered IMAX exclusive so they included those on the 3D format. Movies with the IMAX ratio throughout, such as Infinity War, are considered IMAX exclusive so they did not include the expanded ratio on disc as they would have to pay IMAX extra or give them a cut.

The question with Shang Chi is if the movie is considered as having the IMAX aspect ratio even though it was filmed with non IMAX cameras. Unfortunately, because it was filmed with cameras that meet IMAX’s lazy new ‘IMAX certified’ classification, I’m pretty sure it is considered an IMAX exclusive just like Infinity War/Endgame and we will not be getting the expanded ratio on the 3D Blu-ray. I would love to be wrong though!

Infinity and Endgame was because they were opened up the whole movie. When it expand in key scenes they been on the 3D Blu-Ray since Civil War. It was the case with Black Widow recently too.

That's exactly what I said lol. Shang Chi is apparently in IMAX exclusive ratio for the entire movie, as stated by IMAX themselves. Don't expect to see this in expanded ratio on the 3D disc.

...and Shang Chi was also opend up the wohle movie.

Unfortunately, I think the chances are very slight for a IMAX ratio..

But let´s wait, until anyone have the disc in the hands. Then we know the truth...

Oh didn’t know that thought it was key scenes again. Eternals will be the likely next candidate for IMAX expanded 3D Blu-Ray

Wouldn't suffice change the aspect ratio to the IMAX on the most important scenes and let the rest with widescope aspect ratio instead of no change at all, just widescope ratio like they did with infinity war and endgame? :/

Before that there were the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange that had AR changes.
