I luv my BD30, and until there are some drastic improvements in the actual PQ in playing an actual blu, I'll be keeping it. I do not think I have ever watched an entire DVD on my BD30, so it looks like the BD60 doesn't offer me much to upgrade....guess I'm just a blu-ray snob now?

the panasonic 60 can do the "24P" on standard dvds.. it does make them much better. if your tv can do 24 that is.

Did it get right of that stupid DVD layer change delay that the 35 suffers from??

Watch a DVD in its entirety - have you? There's a one second pause, right around the halfway point of the movie, where it detects the layer change on the DVD. The 35 suffers from it, and want to make sure the 60/80 doesn't.

You are a Blu-ray snob. I would say "welcome to the club" but you've been a member of that club for a while...and you've got a killer setup by the way.

That pretty much sums up my feelings also. I use my BD30 only for Blu-ray playback and I bitstream to my Denon AVR. I also have an Oppo DVD player which I use for all DVD playback. I can't say enough good things about the BD30, but it's still interesting to see what others think of the BD60 or BD80 as I know I'll need a replacement eventually. Because the experience with the BD30 has been so good, I can't imagine going with anything but another Panny, although I have been considering the Oppo BD player as an all-in-one solution. Luckily I don't have to make the decision right now as my BD30 is still going strong.

I would be interested in hearing how the DVD upscaling on the 60/80 compares to the Oppo 983. Does anyone have any info on that?

most people are very biased about the oppo.. they tell that its much better then the panasonic. I heard it was only a 5 percent better look to it. I would stick with the panasonic brand.

I have played dvds. I don;t remember having a problem playing a dvd without any pauses or anything.

When they say 5% better, are they talking about Blu-ray playback, or is it DVD upconversion?

DVD playback should be identical between the Oppo BD-83 and my Oppo 983 because they use the same software, probably almost identical hardware too I would guess. My Oppo does quite a bit better at DVD upconversion than my Panny BD30 does. That's the only thing negative I've ever had to say about the BD30. What I'm wondering is if the upconversion from the BD60 or 80 is closer to being on par with the Oppo. If so, that would allow me to replace my BD30 in my theater room with say a BD60. Then I could relocate the Oppo to someplace else in the house. Being that these players are all so new, I'm not sure if anyone is going to be able to do the comparison.

5 percent better then the panasonic 60 for dvd up conversation.
like I said before. I notice the PQ better on the 60 over the 30 for dvds. if your tv can do the 24p then its much better. I also have a fine tv that does 120 refresh. everything looks good.
