Surprise theatrical showings for D+ day

Has anybody heard about this?

I was gonna post this in the D+ thread but since that's usually just for the stuff they're streaming, I figured it would get lost in there... Mods, if you feel this doesn't deserve a separate thread please merge with the main Disney+ thread!

Participating theaters are listed by every state. Looks like the showings will be Fri-Sun. I imagine it's the same 4 movies everywhere and not random and different for each theater.

Still don't understand why they expect people to pay $5 to watch a movie at AMC when they could just be watching it at no extra charge if they are already D+ subscribers...

Why go to the movies at all? Just wait until it comes "free" on your streaming subscription.

They are, or you can use AMC A-list.

Generally I would try to save the A-List slots for the premium theater showings, because those are usually $20+ depending on the market, you get more for your subscription money. If a movie is just $5 you're sometimes better off paying for that directly. Just depends on how many other movies you're watching that week.

You should use Fandango too, if you're not. You get 125 points with each A-List screening, and it adds up to $5 rewards (500 points) pretty quickly. Good for stuff like this, or digital rentals, etc..

The last category is 1hr 48min which means it is not an MCU. The Dark World is the shortest MCU movie at 1hr 52min

I'm going to a 20th anniversary screening of Fellowship of the Ring at the end of the month, and if Disney ever rereleases a Renaissance film or one of Walt's films, then I will go as well, I actually went to The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast in 2018, it was fun.

I mean, you're right, of course, but I was talking about this as a promotion that is celebrating a streaming service... so sending people to the theater would seem almost counter-intuitive...

Everything around that celebration is weird to me, they act as if their streaming service is a gift from heaven and now try to make its premiere date a national holiday that even affects the parks.

The only thing that interests me is their announcements for upcoming projects. I'm expecting a title reveal for their 2022 animated film, teasers for Disenchanted, Peter Pan and Pinocchio, and a full trailer for Turning Red.
