The extended cut was just poorly done, with scenes literally stuck in without much thought to pacing, making the music blend, and they didn't even mix the audio - the cut scenes are in mono spread across the front channels. The Russell Casse (Randy Quaid) scenes aren't very good because of poor acting - Miguel (James Duval) in particular comes off like he's in a high school drama class while the rest of their scenes don't amount to much or payoff the Troy is sick story. Their last scene, added to the Area 51 underground sequence in the middle of the final battle, slows even that sequence down to a crawl (and has temp score in it, 'Master Alarm' from "Apollo 13" plays low in the mix) The rest of the cut scenes are better, but again nothing went into integrating them properly. They are great on their own, as deleted scenes. The film is better off without them as a result of that bad editing. Speaking of July 4th, every year I watch the corresponding 'day' in the film (July 2, 3, and 4) as a silly tradition. ![]() |

I believe there is even a bookmark feature now in Blu-Ray but not all studios support that either. With bookmarks we could maybe actually choose the cut scenes we wanted integrated into the movie and watch it that way. Now wouldn't that be cool. Maybe the insiders here can comment why studios are just opting for one cut and not just using the seamless branching. |

But 2 that are at the top of my list are Apollo 13 and Minority Report. What is it with Spielberg, he seems to be slow getting out his titles. Last edited by jfcarbel; 05-30-2009 at 02:17 AM. |

Michael Bay quoted not too long ago that Armageddon would have to be remastered since the current master was destroyed in a fire or something like that.

Going back to the question from earlier in the thread asking if Criterion would end up releasing more live action feature films than Buena Vista on BD this year...
I had some free time this morning, so I looked up the releases from Jan-May. Criterion: 6 (5 Catalog) Buena Vista: 9 (2 Catalog) However, 7 of the Buena Vista titles are New Release and only two (Pretty Woman and High School Musical) are Catalog, while only 1 of the Criterions is New Release (Benjamin Button). Curious to see if this would continue to play out with official upcoming release info we have so far, I found the following: Criterion: 6 (All Catalog) Buena Vista: 10 (5 Catalog) So, it's somewhat close, with Buena Vista leading 19-12. However, if we're talking catalog titles only, Criterion is leading 11-7. The live action catalog titles: Criterion For All Mankind The 400 Blows In the Realm of the Senses Kagemusha The Last Metro Last Year at Marienbad El Norte Playtime Repulsion The Seventh Seal The Wages of Fear Buena Vista The Greatest Game Ever Played High School Musical Jackie Brown Miracle Pretty Woman Pulp Fiction The Waterboy Last edited by captveg; 05-30-2009 at 04:40 PM. |

Anyone remember the rumors years ago about Ridley Scott and James Cameron possibly collaborating on a Alien 5? Was there any truth to that? If so, what happened?
