Bottle Rocket is one of the comedies that get better through multiple viewings (in my opinion)

Either way... if you're not that into comedies....then the film had one strike against it going in.... and not liking Owen Wilson was strike #2..... No surprise it didn't hit it out of the park that far behind in the count

(was on a roll so I just went with it )

At least I've seen all the Blu-ray Criterions that are out now

I agree with Beta. "Bottle Rocket" is one of those movies where the first time you watch it you probably struggle to get through it. Seriously I bet the thought of turning it off crossed your mind. Upon repeat views, however, you start picking up little details that start making the movie more and more entertaining. It's not a "laugh out loud" comedy, but more of a "think about it later and laugh about it" type comedy. One of those films where you probably only laugh about it when you're discussing it with others. I find most of Wes Andersons movies fall into this unique state. (I have yet to see his last film "The Darjing (sp?) Limited" (i may be wrong on that title )
Watch "Rushmore" that's probably as close to "mainstream" comedy as Wes gets.

I've only seen The Royal Tenembaums (I loved it) and The Life Aquatic (I hated it).

Oh yeah I was seriously considering stopping 1/2 way through watching it. I think I have only ever done that with 2 or 3 Blu-ray out of the 400 or so I've watched. I ended up just taking an intermission and coming back to finish.

None of Wes Andersen's movies are my "Top Favorites" but I don't really dislike any of them either.

They're all pretty well done

Ahhhh, Wes Anderson... that guy sure knows how to frame a shot! That's all I can say. When I watch any of Wes Anderson's films, and I own all of them, I don't see one piece of film that I consider "wasted." To me, Anderson's films are all about the characters, and I don't see how anyone that's grown up slightly outcast from society or in a "dysfunctional" family, which I'm sure many have, can't somehow relate to his quirky brand of filmmaking. My favorite, by far, is "The Darjeeling Limited" and I pray daily for Fox to lend over those rights to Criterion.

Default Howard's End wins the Amazon vote..

Apparently Howard's End won the Amazon pick..

Not exactly happy with that. I think they should have had the poll on their actual website so not every joe-shmoe picked the only movie they've heard about on the list..

Maybe I'm wrong about that but I seriously doubt most of Criterion's actual followers voted for Howard's End.

I figured either 'Au Revoir Les Enfants' or 'Kwaidan' would get it because that's what all the forums were looking like.

I still don't think it will matter much.... they'll all become available.... perhaps Amazon will do a "Deal of the day" for Howard's End

Most likely but it will certainly be a while.

Here's the link to pre-order Howard's End.

The pre-order has "Customers who bought this also bought" and it's all Criterion releases..... and then it says something about 36% off criterion releases.... but the pre-order is the standard Criterion pre-order Amazon price, yet the cover certainly isn't Criterion...... I'm guessing it's just some "Stock" art since it doesn't even look like Blu-ray.

I'll just say what I have. Vampyr and Robocop. I'm picking up the Videodrome Criterion this weekend after I saw all the features it contained.

Well considering it's on the main page of this website as a pre-order and specifically says [Blu-ray] in the title I'd say it's a blu-ray indeed.

Criterion and Merchant Ivory have close ties (Criterion at least used to have info about the Merchant Ivory Collection on their site), so I wouldn't be surprised if they use Merchant Ivory artwork for the Blu-ray release. I believe the preliminary art is from a Merchant Ivory SE DVD.

I guess its safe to say that all the new titles for the foreseeable future will be featuring the thicker clear case...

So is this version basically the same as the Tartan release in the UK?

Very nice! I always look forward to your reviews, pro-b. It's nice that you've received "The Seventh Seal" over two weeks before its release date. I can't wait 'til you get "The Last Days At Marienbad" in your hands, either.
