Belive me in 2 years everything well be differnt, in 2 years the prices of blu ray players will be dirt cheap, and sometihng new will be around the corner like an upgraded Blu Ray player or something that requires you to buy a new player. Your PS3 isn't going to be high end for eternity, you should already know that by now. ALOT could happen in 2 years. As far as electronics and technology I never look beyond 1.75 years with any of my stuff. I barely keep a computer (laptop) for 1.5 years as of late.

And if anything I know RIGHT NOW I'll buy a new Blu Ray player/drive if it's still kicking strong only for the ability to burn 4x or 8x. So I'll tell you right now I'm buying a New Blu Ray Drive in 2 years. And that's a promise you can take to the bank.

18 months is a long time.. That's all I have to say about that. I think I'd rather enjoy myself rather then be upset or angry at Universal and Paramount for the next 18 months while I know my TV could be playing something I want instead of just settling for something. Maybe some people just don't want to settle anymore.

Thats not the point i was making the point i was going across is why buy hd-dvd movies just because of 2 companies if blu-ray wins the format war?

You just posted a post saying 2 years will pass very soon and everything will be different. make up your mind

And it's that some people want to do the thing that benefits high definition, in the long run

Yeah so ??? If I know my TV is being out dated in 2 years or so Why not watch everything from now and then that I want to love instead of waiting for the format war to end, and by chance having both formats die out? Seeing whose going to win the format war is of no concearn to me atm, it would just change my buying habbits.

I am sticking with blu-ray. I am not going to switch because of Paramount because I don't want them to think that they made the right decision.

Lol - Downloadable movies! Never will I download an HD movie. NEVER! Again, too many things are going against it's adoption.

What's it going to cost me to buy the film on Blu ray? when this happens, if this happens? About 29.99? Same price? If all it costs me is 175 dollars for the HD drive, that's peanunts compared to what I've spent on computer components and videocards. Belive me son, you don't want to even know what I've spend on LCD's, Monitors, and Videocards and processors in the last 3-4 years. I really don't view it as a loss, even if you told me next week that HD DVD is officially dead. I'll just use my current system for my current film, and move on like nothing happened.

I'm kind of used to buying new home video formats every few years as well - since about 1966. My post from another thread of a few days back:

1969 - Sony AV-8650 1/2" Open-reel Editing VTR
1972 - Sony VO-1600 3/4" U-Matic VCR
1979 - Magnavox LaserDisc Player
1978 - Panasonic VHS VCR
1981 - Magnavox VHS VCR
1982 - Pioneer LaserDisc Player
1986 - Mitsubishi VHS Hifi VCR
1987 - Pioneer LD-838 LaserDisc Player (still in use!)
1989 - Panasonic AG-1980 Super VHS VCR (2) (still in use! w/new heads)
2000 - Sony DVD Player
2002 - Sony DVD Player
2005 - Sony DVD Player
2007 - Panasonic Blu-ray Player
2007 - Sony Playstation 3 Blu-ray Player
2007 - Sony DVD Player w/HDMI upscaler

I've experienced enough history to know that it often repeats itself. Regardless of what computer maker comes out with what HD drive, et all, it will still come down to one format.

Seen it all before.

And, no - it's not that different than any previous home video format war. Like in sports, the players may change, but it's still the same game.

but you see then when something you really want no matter what it is you will be about $30 less then what you should have (well times how many others you buy) but like lets just say there was something you wanted to buy and you needed $30 in order to pay for it but you didnt have it then you cant buy it. Like for instance im a big anime fan and im sure a good amount of people know that by now on this website and i have bought over 600 anime dvds in 5 years time and each one of them was a one i know i would enjoy watching and so each penny that went into them was not wasted and when something better for them comes out i trade them in where i work and have a better chance of getting the next version i want for that title or whatever else i could use that money towards

Yeah but like I said even if BluRay wins this thing like you claim, I'm still buying a new Blu Ray drive in 2 years, so what difference does it make?

uhhhh.... I would just work harder and earn the cash to get what I wanted I think... I did that pretty much for the cayenne I just bought just for weekends and going on trips or vacation with my small family while I drive a normal sedan to work monday though fridays. I mean do I need the cayenne? not really, but it's nice... I mean I had to work a few more hours here and there and sell a few stock investment I had to pick it up. You just sacrafice something in life and pick it up and be happy with your choices.

Belive me if I got upset or made regrets over my choices in life for the last 30 years I would have jumped off a building a long time ago. I don't really sit there and ponder about what if and what nots or have regrets for that matter.
