Same with me. After SOTL, I've found it difficult to muster up much enthusiasm for all of their 4K announcements (Paths of Glory, Dressed to Kill, Great Escape) until I know for sure they're not botched. I've definitely ended my practise of selling off stuff on eBay in anticipation of the upgrade thanks to them.

EXACTLY!

I was nice on twitter recently, bringing up disc errors on Silence & Body Snatchers in hopes they would look into the actual errors. Instead they blocked me on twitter.

They just want your money and disc quality be damned.

I don’t need to do any Kino Pre-orders going forward, and on “blindbuy” titles that I sometimes purchase during sales? no thanks. They want to be rude about their own disc errors and refuse to correct them, fine. My money goes to other labels.

I have canceled all upcoming kino pre-orders. I can spend that money wonderfully on Arrow, Vin Syn, and many other boutique labels.

Was going to order Hard Target, but no longer skeptical after SOTL and IOTBS, now there's been an issue confirmed I'll grab the Universal blu-ray for $10.

Too late for me as I think DeepDiscount already shipped mine but I will remux if the BD audio is fine and watch the mkv rip which is what I have been doing for a while. We might be seeing more of this as the small boys now have established themselves and will be focussing on quantity over quality.

Yeah, looking at the Universal on my new OLED is like...ehh...not as good as I remember, but still watchable...at least the audio is really solid.

I mean, at least the new Kino Blu-ray seems to be alright...right? RIGHT? Right?

My set from Kino is being delivered Wednesday right now. I'll take a look at it soon as I can.

Well, I'll wait for caps before I make a decision on the video. I'm not feeling the 4K so far for the price and audio. I'll see how it looks when caps become available.

I learned my lesson after SOTL. Glad I didn’t preorder this one like I would have.

Yikes, stuff like this is the reason why I don't pre-order any releases anymore. Only exceptions being the odd release and some limited editions with exclusive content that will be dropped for the standard edition.

Dune 4K, Phantasm I & II set, SoTL 4K, Hard Target 4K, Mad Max 2 4K, there's been so many botched releases in the past few months that I just won't bother with pre-orders going forward.

I just checked my Best Buy pre-order and have gotten notification that my pre-order will be arriving tomorrow, a day ahead of its street date.

At least according to everyone's favorite insider.

They also can't really use the excuse that the audio is just what they were given if the blu ray audio is fine. There's really no reason the 4K audio should be different than the blu ray. The 2.0 audio issue sounds weird, but I honestly couldn't care less since this is a legit 5.1 movie. Maybe the 2.0 isn't even wrong and it's just a weird mix only meant to be used by people that don't have a surround setup. It would still be nice if they could fix it as well, but I will be happy if they can just fix the 5.1 mix on the 4K.

This seems like a pretty clear cut mix up on Kino's part with no real excuses this time, so hopefully they make it right by offering a replacement program.
What I found strange when comparing the Kino BD and UHD of Silence of the Lambs was how differently authored they were. The menus are different (not just because the UHD lacks the special features, the whole layout), the chapter stops are in different places, and the BD has a Kino Lorber logo added to the actual front end of the movie whereas the UHD does not.

Given that the 5.1 for Hard Target is okay on the BD but not on the UHD makes me wonder if two completely different facilities/authorers handle them respectively. I guess that Kino use who they've always used for their BDs but they had to go to someone else to do their UHDs? Whoever they are, their QC game is seriously lacking but the responsibility for this really does fall on Kino's shoulders. KLI told us quite proudly that SOTL had been through like 12 rounds of QC, I hope he/they reply with a similar number for Hard Target

Silly Kino. Should have gone with the industry standard 13 rounds of quality control. Shame.

My Kino blu-rays I own usually start with the KL logo. I didn't even notice that SOTL on 4K didn't. It's possible Kino do in house encoding for their BDs and give their 4Ks to a different encoder, but the included BD of SOTL was fairly similar in quality to KLs other blu-rays (kinda meh on encode).

What are brightness pops? Sorry, don't have Dobly Vision.

I just assume new releases will be effed up in some way and most of the time I'm right. QC at most labels is abysmal. But Kino's responses are the icing on the cake.
