Double checked both scenes:

Episode 15 (Misato & Kaji scene) only has Fly Me To The Moon playing on the Classic Dub. It is not there on the Japanese Track on the Classic Disc, and it is not there on any of the English or Japanese tracks on the Netflix dub discs.

Episode 21 (answering machine scene) does not have FMTTM playing on any of the English or Japanese tracks from the classic or Netflix dub discs.

Seeing as how the only instance in Episode 15 is in a Classic Dub disc, which is limited edition, I'm gonna bet it's just gonna slide by and not be addressed.

This may (or may not) explain why the ADV dub is only included in the limited sets. It's also possible that GKids simply didn't catch it before authoring the discs. Either way the collector's edition will be that much more valuable once it's gone.

I checked Episode 15 on the ADV Films dub/sub disc, and Fly Me to the Moon is present during the scene with Misato and Kaji when playing the ADV dub, but it's rather quiet, I almost couldn't even tell it was there at first. Comparing the same scene on the ADV Films DVD and FMTTM is much louder there, it's night and day what sounds better there. It seems they had difficulty editing FMTTM out of that scene which is why it's still there and not that audible.

At the very least it wasn't bombarded with cicadas, unlike the VSI and JPN audio.

I got my email from AlltheAnime, my order was in the first 1000 it seems (sorry dude), so hopefully I'll get mine on time~
Though, it'll have to ship to Australia, so wouldn't be surprised if it didn't get here until next year tbh, but it's something at least

I wonder if it's a case of the stems for the ADV dub not being available, so they had to work with the finished surround mix. I've played with the surround mixes before for a fan edit and while IIRC the music mainly plays through the front L/R channels, it's still a bit audible in the center channel where most of the dialogue is. Maybe they muted whichever channel(s) the music was mainly placed in, but it was still audible in channels they couldn't mute without taking out dialogue or effects as well.

Of course, there are some pretty advanced AI-based sound isolation/processing tools out nowadays, so it could probably be done. I also don't necessarily see why the answering machine scene would be mixed differently. I don't have both scenes in front of me to check, but I would assume the scene where you can still hear it also has more ambient background noise, being outdoors. That might've made it harder to get rid of the music completely without audible artifacts, compared to the likely cleaner indoor soundscape of the answering machine scene.

Mine just arrived from RightStuf.

Pretty plain on the outside, but I love it nonetheless. This is one of my favorite anime series of all time. Funny that this is the most expensive anime set I've ever purchased and the next one in the list is Gurren Lagann, which also happens to be my second favorite series. I guess I just like giant Mech anime :P.

Can't wait to watch it all over again!

While I am interested in the potential upgrade in PQ compared to the Netflix stream, I am WAY more interested in hearing the series all over again in lossless DTS-MA 5.1. I just upgraded my sub as well, hope to give it a workout on some of the more action-oriented episodes.

Can you tell if it's a night and day difference between this set and Netflix?

Never watched it on netflix since i owned the platinum dvd ones with fly me to the moon intact. Though what i heard it was mind blowing audio experience with all the channels being used alot .
