Interesting that the 4K restoration was done over four years ago and there still hasn't been a release of it. We even got a Kino release within the four pack after that and still had the old master.

Criterion, Paramount, someone should release it.

The e-mail with the code is signed "Your friends at the Criterion Channel." It's a Channel subscriber thing, not just for everyone subscribed to the newsletter.

If any Canadians are planning to pick up Criterion's release of The Piano, it will not be available to us as another party owns Canadian rights. (That was UV's reply when I was seeking a link on their site and asked about the title.)

We need to order it elsewhere, so perhaps this could be a good idea with the 30% sale, as the email states that pre-orders are included.

I would be shocked if the director's set isn't Kurosawa. Actually, I would be upset as they have not released a film of his in ages and the only way I can understand that is because they are working on a comprehensive director's set.

The Room might be better suited for Kino. Fans would look the other way at any QC issues.

I just saw this recently. The camerawork is astounding: Most of it was shot via a mirror contraption so the whole film had to be flipped in post. Big influence on Gaspar Noe. It certainly deserves more attention.
