[Show spoiler]It was meant to be as a plain recommendation rather a detailed review since Lemmy's yet to watch!

Episode 2 - Metamorphosis

Why on Earth are the opening credits in SD?! I get upscaling composite/VFX, but titles that are going to be used across the entire season? C’mon….

[Show spoiler]Not a very gory slasher (the main difference is that you hardly see any killing, just the aftermath), and the identity of the killer is very obvious - although he has an excellent disguise (and I'm not talking about the Groucho Marx mask)!

Watched: The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford.

A magnificent study of hero worship turned sour. Everything about it makes it a masterpiece, Pitt and Affleck are superb but all the cast are perfect. What makes it so engrossing is the last half hour on the events after the killing. Roger Deakins' cinematography is beautiful, especially the train holdup. Amazing that it hasn't had a lavish collectors edition or a 4K, still a 160 minute film and a 30 minute documentary is crammed onto one disc with lossy sound. Deakins said there was originally a 4 hour cut which I would love to see. One of the very few films which narration really enhances:

"There would be no eulogies for Bob, no photographs of his body would be sold in sundries stores, no people would crowd the streets in the rain to see his funeral cortege, no biographies would be written about him, no children named after him, no one would ever pay twenty-five cents to stand in the rooms he grew up in."

Watched in ODEON:

West Side Story is one of those rare remakes that isn’t better than the original, and isn’t worse either: it’s very much its equal. Spielberg has had a remarkable 2010s (with the exception of Ready Player One) and even in his 70s he still makes films like nobody else does. He’s a studio director everyone knows yet remains distinctive and magical. The film is dedicated to his late father but it’s also a way to remember Sondheim’s legacy too. This goes in my top 10 of the year (yes, it’s better than In the Heights!) and really deserves to be seen on the big screen. I cried twice and couldn’t leave my seat during the credits (I was walking to the doors but danced back in for one more song) due to the power of Bernstein’s music. Listening on Spotify now but this soundtrack will be stuck in my head for weeks. Following it with Lamb was perhaps a mistake because it’s such a quiet, slow film but this soundtrack was still playing full volume in my head.

A couple of curiosities that are relegated to footnotes in their biggest hitters careers, if mentioned at all.

Would you think even less of me if I said I can count on one hand the amount of times I've watched any extras.

I'll get my coat

It’s fine. Your card was marked when you said you’d never seen Planes, Trains….

(Flight of the Eagle)

Not seen it, but they had me at doomed Polar expedition (though the poster makes it look like Days of Heaven 2). That Max von Sydow and Sverre Anker Ousdal would go on to play Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen in the superlative The Last Place on Earth (bluray please, Network) three years later just adds to the anticipation.

Guessing all the extensive extras are unsubtitled right?

Not checked yet, but they weren't on the same label's Man on the Roof/Mannen pa Taket, so I'd expect not. A shame, because the commentary features Bea Uusma, who wrote an impressive book about the real tragedy and her own obsession with trying to find answers to their fate, The Expedition.

I read a few reviews, responses seem mixed, but at just £3 worth a try.
