That shot of Kirk's face is the only one that concerns me. It's way too processed and over-sharpened.

I swear that is actually a crop from an earlier photo they had posted before.

Personally would not take any of these shots as definitively representative of the final product, there maybe plenty more finessing to be applied, but they are certainly tantalizing.

I think the Enterprise is technically in Space Dock during TMP but is in Dry Dock when stationed inside the Starbase in TSFS. I always get that confused myself. NERD!

It looks like Memory Alpha uses both names interchangeably, however the people who designed and built the model call it "dry dock", so that's what I use.

Oh, no. I was mistaken. I was thinking "2 of 3" from Voyager s07e19 where the Doctor made the "fictional" hologram hating crew. 7 of 9 was "2 of 3" and "3 of 8."

I misremembered "Double of Five." Ignore me.

Humor. It is a difficult concept. It is not logical.

In dialogue all I can recall them calling it in TMP was "dock" (the drydock), but in III, IV, and VI they specifically say "Spacedock" for...Spacedock.

I would still like to see an ultimate set containing all 3 cuts remastered for blu-ray
- Theatrical, Special Edition, and this new directors cut. Similar to what was done for Close Encounters.

At least with marine ships, rather than starships, when being newly constructed or major refits they are worked on out of the water in either enclosed facilities or outdoor docks that can be filled or drained of water depending on the status of the ship; hence dry dock.

Always longed for a version of this movie restored with the effects completed of the original V'ger spacewalk with both Spock and Kirk .
I still have old books from the 80's with stills from it .
Also remember a photo of Clint Eastwood with his son & daughter with William Shatner between filming the scene .

This is about as close to a restored version as we're going to get.

Star Trek The Motion Picture: Abandoned Scene Restored - YouTube
I know , always enjoyed that clip in the extended cut even though the effects not completed .
It was shown with the original spacewalk effects not complete with wires showing them flying through V'ger in the early 80's on airplane filghts .
Always wondered how in the world did the get a hold of that to show ?

I remember when I went to a audio/video store in Texas back in the late 80s, some guy was watching the film and I was watching it from a distance. Suddenly, the extended bridge scene plays with that weird forehead alien saying "And Captain Decker? He's been with this ship every minute of her refitting." and my jaw dropped. I don't remember this at all. Am I dreaming? I felt like I was in a weird twilight zone episode. I couldn't look it up on the internet because it didn't exist back than and my folks wouldn't know because they'd likely believe that a movie can't be different unless they tame it down for TV.

Um, wat?

I specifically remember seeing TMP on a flight from NY to LA in 1980. There was no additional footage.

The Earth matte is a lot more vibrant in this shot. I almost thought it was a completely knew painting of Earth, but doing a side-by-side comparison definitely shows that it is the same. Also, the Travel Pod has been added!

3. V'Ger Evolves
Can't really tell much difference in this shot. Maybe when you look over the edge, the V'Ger bridge from the Director's Edition will be fully implemented into this and the next shot. Color timing must be one heck of an science.

4. Klingon Weapons Station
Aww yeah! Nothing tops the intimidation and cold cunning portrayal of the Klingons in TMP. They are the only Klingons I have ever feared.
