What is DV without the base layer or is the base layer just MaxFaLL and CLL, then DV a capable TV would ignore the base layer meta data.

The APL differences are appearing between HDR and SDR, some Disney content, Black Widow and the Hawkeye series show higher APL in daytime scenes.
PQ-based HDR is literally a Dolby invention, so why wouldn't they have created those things for HDR10? It makes complete sense that a format without dynamic metadata has these static figures for maximum peak & maximum average while a format that has dynamic scene by scene metadata has no need for static metadata, for what I thought were obvious reasons. I don't understand why this is wowing/puzzling you so much.

Up until a few days ago, I was under the impression that those two components were shared. I knew that Dolby researched and developed PQ HDR for yeats, but I considered the static components as a SMPTE led metric. Within this forum, the two components aren't posted as HDR10 specific data, but as universal data shared by both formats. When specs are posted MaxFaLL and Max CLL are shown, with DV info limited to EL data size.

The fact Dolby felt it was necessary to inform content creators of this fact, assuming the content creator would know this without Dolby putting it in notes.

The dynamic metadata of Dolby Vision is far more eloquent in its ability to adjust shot by shot.

Another hint, the DP to the Director in question not only likes dogs, but dolphins too.

Last time I went to a bar was about thirty years ago, and back then I didn't have a mobile phone. I don't drink and I don't call; I watch HDR movies and the wildlife.

Well, that pic above was of the inside of the real-life bar which provided the inspiration for the development of the beach bar in Top Gun: Maverick.

And to you Salty.
? The best Christmas present granted to us for a healthy next year heralding a sense of security and ease in watching our UHD BDs with invited friends and family without consternation? Approval of this (spoiler-ized so as not to offend anyone, but hoping everyone can look beyond biases and come together), approved very quickly(under the radar) 2½ weeks after this scientific aside heads-up: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post19631679
