Just because it's better doesn't mean it's perfect . Episode 16 for example would be a mark on any release of the restoration. I'm perfectly content with it myself but I'm also not the one writing a technical review of it. It would be dishonest and biased to give a perfect score to something just because it's better than another release.

Episode 16 looks like that on every Blu Ray release of Evangelion. You can't dock the picture quality when the negatives were destroyed.

I didn't say it was perfect either, but since it's better than the JP discs - which I doubted was going to be the case from the from the get-go - is damn impressive and, technically, makes it the best option to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Biased? Maybe. Dishonest? Nawww

Yes. Has been for a while. All The Anime (UK) had a very small and very brief restock from customer returns some weeks ago, but the replenishment only lasted for several hours - if that.

I don't think that's how they score these things. It's not a curve where the best release available gets the full 5 and everything else is graded relative to that. It's not GKIDS' fault episode 16 looks worse, but episode 16 does look worse. It is less than a perfect presentation.

It's also fair to dock the remaster for just upscaling the DVD transfer of the 35mm interneg instead of re-scanning it. That still isn't GKIDS' fault, but it absolutely was a completely avoidable misstep on Khara's part. The material presented on these discs, while an improvement over the Japanese edition, inherits a significant flaw that has no good reason to be as severe as it is, which more than justifies knocking a 5 down to 4.5 (assuming it would've been a 5 otherwise).

A week ago, I had to pay an extra $45 in Customs and Duties to Fed-EX for my UE.

In all that time, it has gone from the AtA warehouse in England...to the Fed-EX warehouse in England.
Got told today, it won't leave there for another week due to "warehouse issues".

Then it will go to Memphis USA.

Then maybe, with a bit of luck, it will get sent to Canada before New Years but no guarantee.

I'm beginning to loathe this release...

Figured this was a mistake. Got a confirmation minutes after submitting for my standard edition

Curious if we will need to do the same for our NA Ultimate Edition orders? Considering we are still a month away from those shipping, they might already be including the fixed disc, but I'll submit my order for that just in case.

Apologies if this isn't the best place to ask, but what is the optimal setup to playback/screencap anime on with MPC-HC? I've seen Mad-VR mentioned a couple times but have no idea where to start with that stuff. IIRC another user sent me an already configured portable copy but I misplaced it.

And yes, I own the discs. This is for my little sync project!

Can anyone offer up advice on where to purchase the CE from? Rightstuf, GKids and Shout Factory all offer it at the same price. As this is an expensive set, I'd prefer to order from the one that has the best packaging and shipping.

A few of my fellow colleagues in this forum might say otherwise due to personal experience, but I find Rightstuf the best place to order from. Mine came in a box, protected and padded, with no damage to the item or it's corners. Mine didn't have loose discs, but that's a crapshoot and you might not be so lucky.

I've only had to return one item to them out of the several dozen I've purchased over the past three years.

However, opinions may differ.
