Don’t forget to follow the tutorial in my signature. For nearly all cases, it helps tremendously.

This shilling of your videos is really starting to get old.

I do not see what I’m doing as shilling when I receive zero benefit from it. I don’t even monetize my channel. If there is a sticky on which setup procedure needs to be done, I don’t see it. Now, if trying to help fellow hobbyists is not allowed, then please let me know.

At any time during this process, you could’ve responded to questions and comments that myself and others have posted. At least sapiendut‘s video gave me a direction to go towards.

I don’t know about BJC but many Amazon Basics and Monoprice cables have failed on my many many clients’ setups.

The one setting on this player that still confuses me is the 'HDMI Output Settings of Music Playback'.

I've had it set to 'Sound Quality Priority' but I'm still not totally sure what this does. Is this just strictly for music playback? Or does it also tie into watching a 4K/Blu disc?

For the life of me I can’t tell any difference between turning it on or off. Now I turn it on “just in case”

I just had time to setup the Panasonic UB820.

The setup is as follows:

Panasonic UB820 > Vizio SB36312 > TCL 65R617. With this setup, I'm using two Zeskit 48 Gbps HDMI cables in the process (UB820 > SB36312; SB36312 > 65R617).

The first thing I did was upgrade the firmware.

After that, I followed sapiendut's tutorial video. I've only tried two discs. Iron Man, as it was the first disc that I could easily grab that did not have Dolby Vision to properly configure HDR. Arrow's Region B release of Shock Treatment was the second as I wanted to test the region free trick (it worked).

I do not have a lip-sync issue. All HDMI inputs (Panasonic UB820, Apple TV 4K, and Xbox Series X) are setup for HDMI 2.0 and Audio is setup as Passthrough since the SB36312 is capable of Atmos.

Have a Region 1 player and trying out some Region B discs, all my Arrows worked, but no joy for the included blu in the following 4k sets: Dawn of the Dead, Looper, and Elephant Man (this one seemed odd because the bonus blu on other Studio Canal sets worked fine, such as Ran and Basic Instinct).

Edit: Also wanted to note that I couldn’t get any of my Region 2 DVDs to play.

It's highly unlikely region 2 DVDs will play as they are PAL 576i video.

Region 2 DVDs play fine in my Denon 3910, but not sure if the ub820/9000 can convert PAL to ntsc. That said, the regular DVDs I tried in the ub9000 look like garbage compared to playing through the Denon, so not the best source for playing DVDs.

Indeed. I’m not a fan of the way my 820 upscales DVDs, especially interlaced material. When it comes to that my Sony BDP-S6700 does a much better job. Kind of surprising considering how beautifully the Panny upscales 1080p content- you’d think it would handle DVDs with equal measure.

Check to see if there is any processing going on within the player. That might be why it may be looking not as sharp or good of quality.

My settings are all as they should be according to the informed recommendations of many people in this thread. The Panny just doesn’t handle interlaced DVDs as well I’d like. It’s not a huge deal though as, once again, my S6700 does a bang up job and was literally designed to be paired with 4K Sony displays like mine.

Regardless, I always recommend having a secondary player to help reduce wear on the main unit.

As much as I love my 820 and two 9000, their DVD upscaling are mediocre at best. I keep my Oppo 105D just for this purpose.

As soon as Pannysonic created this SOC the usage of DVD was little more than an afterthought. There's no aspect ratio control whatsoever and no "source direct" 480i/576i output which means you can't avoid the deinterlacing, which is seriously poor. These Pannys are excellent spinners for BD and UHD but my word they are hot garbage for DVD.

FedEx just dropped it off! I did not think I would get it before Christmas. The box was within a second shipping box but this thing looks pretty beat up.

Looking forward to getting it set up and check out the HDR optimizer.

I know it's just because the graphic design is dated and the dark-background printing doesn't hold up well to scuffs, but it really is amazing how every single box for these players looks like it's from their initial 2018 production run and has just been in a warehouse for three years.

Sounds about right. My player seems to be missing the date of manufacture sticker...unless these do not come with them? Just got the serial #.

This player is also incredibly loud! Just turning it on for the first time (no disc) and getting the firmware and settings up to date was noticeably loud. Is the fan supposed to be that loud?
