I was holding off for a complete Craig set on 4K, but since there is no word of that happening yet, I may give in and pick it up. I will definitely own it one way or the other. My new Storm Audio processor is hooked up and breaking in along with a couple of new amps, so I will be running the Dirac Live calibration after the new year. At that point hopefully the new projector is in and I will start working through my backlog of movies. By the way, the Storm Audio is awesome. Definitely a step up from the Lyngdorf.

I could use some TV buying advice if any of you would be willing to offer it over in my little mini thread:

. High-Def gave Last Duel high marks as well:

Not to be left behind, The Last Duel also offers up a genuinely excellent Dolby Atmos audio mix. The issues with limp Atmos tracks must be a specific Mouse House specialty and not extend to 20th Century Studios.
Too bad some of the Disney tent poles are released on the Disney label with their anemic immersive sound tracks.

Single point or multi point mic pickup?

I don't think the 4K disc of Last Duel got neutered in the sound department. I rented the BD and it had 7.1 lossless DTS-HD MA. Sounded terrific. I'll assume that the Atmos soundtrack does, too.

Multi. The folks at Storm swear by the UMIK-1, so I have that ready to go. There are tutorials about specific places for the mic during each measurement to get the best results. They say it takes about 10 runs to get it right. I normally am not a fan of auto cal systems, but I have a profile saved with my calibrations by ear and can easily toggle down to the Dirac profile once that is done to compare the two. I have 4 different theater setups saved with different speaker configurations and can have multiple profiles for each theater. Switching between them takes about 5 seconds. This processor is crazy.

Box Office: ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Sing 2’ Feel the Christmas Spirit- Hollywood Reporter 12/23

'Sing 2,' 'The Matrix Resurrections' and 'The King's Man' opened Wednesday in advance of the long Christmas weekend.

Quote:
Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home continued to dominate the box office on Wednesday, grossing $27.8 million and making life tough for male-skewing Christmas pics The Matrix Resurrections and The King’s Man.

The Matrix and King’s Man installments both joined the holiday parade on Wednesday alongside Universal and Illumination’s animated film Sing 2, which fared the best of the three new offerings with a solid $8.1 million from 3,892 locations.

Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures’ Matrix Resurrections followed in third-place with an opening day gross of roughly $6.5 million from 3,552 theaters. The Lana Wachowski-directed movie is also available on HBO Max, likely dampening is box office prospects. Overseas, where Resurrections is getting a traditional theatrical release, it has grossed $18.9 million to date.

Matthew Vaughn’s long-delayed King’s Man installment, from 20th Century and Disney, came in No. 4 with a muted opening day gross of $2.2 million from 3,180 theaters.

The corridor between Christmas and New Years is historically a huge boon for moviegoing, but the box office — outside of Spider-Man: No Way Home — has yet to make a full recovery from the pandemic. And worries over the growing omicron variant aren’t helping matters.

No Way Home finished Sunday with a staggering domestic total of $356.5 million, the best six-day total in the history of Sony and the third-biggest of any film, and more than $813 billion worldwide. The film will soon become the first movie of the pandemic era to cross $1 billion.

It’s too early to predict where these four films will land by Sunday.

Spider-Man will no doubt provide the most cheer after scoring the second-biggest opening of all time last weekend with a domestic gross of $260 million.

Sing 2, a sequel to the 2016 film, is a jukebox musical comedy voiced by returning stars Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Nick Kroll, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly and Nick Offerman. Newcomers include Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Pharrell Williams, Letitia Wright and Bono.

Matrix Resurrections hopes to revive the long-dormant franchise and is set 60 years after the events in The Matrix Revolutions (2003). Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Lambert Wilson and Jada Pinkett Smith all return, while new stars include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Christina Ricci.

Been on a binge the last day -- watched "What If..?" and Hawkeye on Disney+ and they were terrific. I just watched The Night House and it was decent.

I also liked the "What If...?" stuff. I am hoping they do one of those for Star Wars.

I streamed No Time To Die with my dad the other night while eating some pizza from my local pizza place. I was surprised at how good 4K HDR looks through the AppleTV app. I decided to finally pull the trigger and get an ATV4K. I am going to replace my Roku Ultra as the Roku does not allow you to watch iTunes Extras through the app unless you're on an Apple device. And I foresee a lot of excusive content being limited to digital in the future. I just think it's easier than getting a disc out and the quality is more than acceptable to me. Thanks.

Just so you know, some are having audio issues with Netflix via the ATV4K. Have not tried on mine, I will use the Nvidia Shield Pro when we start the Witcher.

If you have Mac(s) then you may want to install Display HUD on your ATV. HUD can be a PITA sometimes.

So for, I still manage to tote Netflix rental disc to and from the mail box. Also, not having to much trouble removing a disc from our library and placing disc in player. If it becomes a problem I/we will resume our PT.

For completely different reasons, I have purchased a Zidoo Z9X media player and may or may not procure a Synology DS1821+ NAS and populate it with 14TB drives. Then I will rip our collection to the NAS.

Absolutely no buffering issue’s (audio) watching season 2 of the Witcher with my HDMI path to OLED, sounds more like you are plugging for using a Nivida Shield because of you projection setup.

Some are complaining about Netflix audio pops and dropouts here. I like the ATV and Shield. Both have their ±'s. The Shield is more speedy and versatile, can do shortcuts to apps and play lossless immersive audio from files. It requires a app to match frame but Android 12 is supposed to have auto frame rate switching.
