I believe the fact of having extra power but like I said its not always needed and could be a very big waste of money. Don't pay for an extra 500watts that you know you will never use.

I do see what you are saying ! But I think if I remember right that it had something to do also with how the speaker performs as well , I may be wrong but I will try to find it !

You hit the nail on the head, I've heard so many different responses to amplification and speaker efficiency that it becomes very confusing at times.

i'm just curious in how this stuff works. I just want the overall best experience with the speakers i have. You guys have any advice? sooner or later i'm gonna get an xp2 to power my surround back speakers. but any tips or tricks on settings with my receiver concerning my amp would be much appreciated! I basically just want the best sound possible from my equipment! thank you

I usually run the setup mic and adjust the speaker gains so that I don't have to crank the volume up so much. You'll have to set it up the way it sounds best for you. Let the setup mic calculate the distances and then adjust each speaker individually. I'm looking into geting an SPL meter so my speakers can be set properly, right now they are just adjusy by ear, which isn't bad but I'm sure they are off somewhat. Did your receiver come with a setup mic?

You'd really want to power your mains with the XPA-2, unless you meant a UPA-2 for the rear surrounds?

I love 'em! Very warm sound, but yet a detailed if not revealing midrange, and highs roll off nice and smooth and are never bright or fatiguing, especially at loud volume levels. Just the way I like it! There's also a really nice slam in the mid-bass. However, what surprised me most is the height of the soundstage - I kept reading how wide it was before I bought them and they don't disappoint in that regard, but the soundstage is also "tall" which caught me completely off guard.

It's ashame that AV123 is going through all that drama right now, because when done right they make an excellent product.

I read about a lot of the issues. However, my recent experience and few talks I've had with MLS seem to indicate things are going in a positive direction. The "BigFoot" arrived with a whole in the box during shipping, and a resulting cigarette-burn sized whole in the grille. Fortunately there was no damage to the speaker itself. I called them on the spot while I was picking up the speakers (they use yellow freight), and they agreed to send a replacement for me right away. The new grille arrived within a week.

The MFW is hands down the best sub I've ever owned, I got one of the originals so there haven't been any issues.
