i really don't know. I had a friend that used to buy Ipods from BB with the BB warranty and return it towards the end of the warranty for his money back....then he'd just buy a newer Ipod.
If BB did that, they would not be in business long.

And just what credible information are you basing your opinion that TVs last only 1-3 years? Simply ridiculous. It's comments like this that scare people into throwing their $$ away on extended warranties. Any learned consumer knows that extended warranties on just about anything are very foolish investments. Sure, you'll hear stories from folks that bought one and it saved them when their equipment died, but in the grand scheme of things, failures in good quality TVs (Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Sony, etc.) outside of the manufacturer's warranty period are a rarity.

If you feel you must have one for the piece of mind, then it's worth it in that regard, but the odds are extremely high that you will never use it. If they weren't, these warranties would never be offered. If you must buy one, look to places like CPS or Mack online.

Exactly. Some of the misinformation around here is incredible....

Check-out the links in my post above if you are serious about a warranty. Both are highly rated over at AVS. Mack has been around since 1938, so no real worries about it going under.

The smart choice for anyone with an HDTV would be to get an extended warranty because you never know what might happen. I have an extended warranty thru Sony and the retailer I got my tv from. Its just the smart thing to do.

LOL. No, the emotional thing to do is spend money on an extended warranty. The smart thing to do is to understand that the 2-3% repair rates (of which most are within the manufacturer's warranty period) do not justify throwing your money away. Now, if you elect to buy an off-brand set for cheap, then an EW would be a prerequisite (which, in the end, puts you right back up to the price level of a good set).

That 2-3% might be *your* luck to get hosed with.

$100 - $500 to safeguard that investment incase you/me/we do happen to be in that 2-3% is something each of us has to decide.
Especially if it happens out of the manufacturers warranty period.

A $2000-$3000 set can break too.

Many warranties include re-calibration... That pretty much justifies the cost of the warranty.

Dust, overheating, wear and tear, power surges, etc - for four(4) years.
Worth it to me!
YMMV

I personally bought extended warranty on my samsung lcd. Like I read before if I paid over a $1000 on something I would like to have some piece of mind that if that "rarity" happens to me and something messes up that it will be covered.

Just got a samsung ln46b750. It's $300 for the 4 year BB warranty. I think I might pass on it. A 3 percent chance of failure. I think those are very good odds.

That's 3% overall, with most of those failures occurring within the manufacturer's warranty period. The odds are greatly in your favor.

Just received my new Samsung UN55B8000. I have 9 months to think about a warranty. I am inclined to do it even at a cost of about $450.00 (ouch)

My Toshiba kicked the bucket just over a year old. I did get a 3-yr warranty which I'm thankful for.
I think a warranty is worth it as long as the price is right. 10% of the purchase price Is my max. Anything more i buy TV and warranty from somewhere else.

I payed $120.00 for a 4 year Plan from Vizio, the exact same coverage was $240.00 at circuit city....CC kept sending me letters trying to convince me to get the coverage....I have yet to have a problem and still have 2 yrs of coverage left with the vizio plan....It has been a great TV....

I bought a warranty for my LG. I am hoping something goes wrong with it and I can trade it up...

In my opinion it is a good investment.

Purchased my Sammy LN52A650 at a good deal under the sale prices last year on Black Firday. As such, I decided to spend $200 on 5 extra years of service. That works out to roughly $.11 per day. If I can't afford that, then I shouldn't be able to afford an expensive TV set. I think it will be the best money spent, whether I use it or not. A friend just recently purchased a 32LG that went south after 8 days. You just never know when something will crap out on you.

Agreed!
While the Law of Averages is in our favor, there is still that chance it will choke and puke.
A warranty will at the very least save us from a headache.

Even though you see complaints and problems with LCD and Plasma sets, surveys including Consumer Reports have deemed these technologies very reliable. Doesn't mean you can't have a problem.

For the most part, extended warranties are pure profit for the company providing them. You would be better off stashing away say $20 a week into a savings account in case something happens and if nothing does, you have extra cash for something else. Most of us probably would not have the disipline to do that.

All that being said, an extended warranty does provide that "warm and fuzzy" feeling and if something does go wrong, justifies it's purchase.

I don't buy them, but that doesn't mean it's not worth it to somebody.
