I'm really hoping we get both cuts of Star Trek 6 because that's the right thing to do on the part of Paramount. Both versions have their fans and it would be a shame to disappoint either group. I personally prefer the director's cut but as to whether it's Superior that's just nothing more than an opinion. I certainly won't be buying a box set of Star Trek 5, Star Trek 6 and Star Trek generations without the director's Edition of Star Trek 6 being included. I don't really care for Star Trek generations and Star Trek 5 I like a lot but I'm not going to buy a box set just to have Star Trek 5 in 4k because I wouldn't be watching the theatrical version of Star Trek 6 more than one time just to see the transfer. Then I would go back to my DVD of the director's cut from then on out.

I do wonder how the Col West reveal ended up on the cutting room floor originally, how do you leave a bit out that gives a totally different view of the actions of key characters in the events that unfolded. |

the good news is that as of a few weeks ago it was reported as being done, and submitted for final quality control checks. so hoping this pops up on paramount plus around the time of Discovery's season finale. (i still think V'Ger is going to be revealed as playing a role in the current discovery season events.) |

I'd prefer both cuts of VI to be included as well, although I'm partial to the 2.39:1 aspect ratio and I'm not a fan of the unmasking scene.
I wonder if Nick Meyer has any say what on what ultimately gets released though? If he gave his approval for the Theatrical and Director's Cut of Star Trek II on 4K, I don't see why he would consent to only one version of VI. |

TWOK is highly regarded by the leadership at Paramount or at least it was back in the day. That's why it gets trotted out for annual screenings, while the rest rarely get shown in a cinema these days. TUC has never been popular and it was only greenlit because Paramount wanted to axe TOS to make way for TNG films and that couldn't be done with the previous film being what it was. That being said, we have no idea what the current thoughts are at the corporate offices, beyond "Trek forward and Trek forever!", so it's possible that we get the Director's Cut or whatever, with a full Nick Meyer remastering and deluxe presentation like TWOK got.

It’s been over 30 years since I saw this in theatres but I’d have swore blind that that scene was in the film in its theatrical run.

Definitely both cuts of both 1 and 6 please. In the case of the latter it was great to see 6 at last in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. I hope when 6 is re-released remastered it is also included.

Saying that though I swear I remember seeing Geordie being tortured by Soran in Generations where he explained he was using a Borg nanoprobe to stop his heart but the scene was not in the VHS or DVD but I did see the scene online many years later ![]() |

Sounds like a novelization memory to me, where you read so many supplemental materials you make your own memories. Like people who remember seeing the Biggs/Anchorhead scene in "Star Wars".

Yes, that deleted torture scene from Generations did involve a nanoprobe attached to Geordi's heart and Soran admitted that it was a Borg technique he picked up, despite the fact that the Borg don't torture and the idea that Soran somehow had a container of Borg Nanoprobes sounds a bit silly in retrospect, especially since Nano-assimilation hadn't been introduced in the continuity at that time and wouldn't be for a few more years. In the theatrical, cut Soran makes a cutting remark about torturing Geordi, saying "his heart just wasn't in it", despite the scene being removed. In the novel, Dr. C specifically mentions that it's a "Borg Nanoprobe" when Geordi wakes up in Sickbay, but the take used in the theatrical cut simply refers to the torture device as a nanoprobe. The script was written by Ron Moore and Brannon Braga and Braga went on to work on Voyager, where the Borg Nanoprobe was first introduced, in the same episode as 7 of 9.

I think Chang was a pretty big part in the conspiracy. It was his ship that crippled Kronos One, it was his attempts to pin the assassinations on Kirk and McCoy and he almost stopped the Enterprise from preventing the assassination of the Federation President.

But when you think about it, why the Klingon disguise unless he wanted to be seen? A human murdering the Federation President made little to no sense. |

CHANG: Escaped. And Chang was right. Kirk did eventually learn the location of the peace conference and Chang made sure he would be there when Kirk showed up. As for the point of West being a Klingon? Sure, I guess it's accurate to say that was weak. However, I do like having the opertunity of seeing Rene Auberjonois playing a character who masqurades as an alien race before he took on a Star Trek role that took that idea to the Nth degree. |
