I'm still waiting for my Target exclusive to come in.I pre-ordered it back on December 18.Target said it was supposed to arrive on Monday but the info has had it stuck as
Shipment Delivered to USPS, Package Acceptance Pending
at my local post office. It's said this since last Wed, Feb 16 with no movement. On the main page,it still says,Arriving Mon, Feb 21.Originally scheduled for Feb 16 which was two days ago.

Meanwhile, when you hit Carrier tracking number:The Estimated delivery keeps moving to the next day.Yesterday it said,Estimated delivery
Tuesday, February 23 by 7:00 P.M
.Today,it says Estimated delivery
Wednesday, February 23 by 7:00 P.M

The green bar hasn't moved since last Wed.It remains On the Way
with the arrow very near the end but not quite there yet.

I hope it hasn't gotten lost somewhere in transit.

I have the Target exclusive for King's Man scheduled to arrive on Friday and that seems to be moving along fine.

I'll give it to the end of the week before contacting Target.I had something like this happen over a year ago.Target ended up sending me another copy of the release last time. The original copy eventually arrived two month later I then just returned that copy.

hahaha

I still want to pick this movie up, even though I didn't care much for this movie. Rather, I didn't care much about ANY of the characters in this movie and I just didn't see much of the point of this movie, especially in the broader scope of the MCU. I do remember this being pretty dark in the Dolby Cinema when I saw it, so I'd expect the same from the disc's video.

And dark HDR movies don't bother me much because my SDR is calibrated to around 110 nits, so movies (likely like this one) that have a lower APL generally are no darker than that.
Anyone who has an LG TV though may have issues with its ASBL and the picture getting darker in the dark scenes of the film. This happened to me while watching the stream on Disney + last night. It sucks!

Unless you turn off ASBL in the service menus, no?

Either way, yeah that would suck if it happened for sure...

That's the thing though, I shouldn't have to do that. The ASBL shouldn't be dimming the picture when I'm watching a movie with the images moving. I get if I pause the film and it sits there for a bit or if I'm watching live tv with logos. That makes sense. But it doesn't make sense when images are actually moving. LG needs to understand that this doesn't work.

That's true; it shouldn't have to be done. I understand why they implement it.
Just out of curiosity, which LG do you have?

I have the C9. I don't notice it when I am watching things in HDR10. But it's more noticeable in Dolby Vision.

That is so weird. I know as the tech has improved even in the two or three years since the LG B/C/G9 series, the ASBL has become less aggressive. I turned it off on my C6 and I turned it off on my G1, too. I don't watch content with news tickers and such and in my 5-ish years of owning the C1, it's not caused any issues. I hear that the ASBL on the Sony's even for the 2021 models is still quite aggressive though, making playing games pretty aggravating. Again, I understand the reasoning behind why they implement it, but it does suck for those who are responsible enough to know how to properly care for their sets, which I'm assuming includes you and me.

I wonder though, I don't necessarily want to watch Eternals again until I get the physical disc, but I may fire up the D+ stream to see.

Yeah, it's becoming an issue for some other LG owners as well. Normally I'm just watching movies in HDR10, but with Eternals and other films lately, I have been checking them out on Disney + before buying them.

As I have mentioned on here before, it's crazy to think LG hasn't caught this. What's more amazing is that Disney and LG have partnered up and with these issues on LG TVs, Disney films with low APL are going to look horrible, ruining the experience for many.

Those plentiful CG doubles are awful though, gave me Superman Returns flashbacks.

I was a big fan of this film, and I noticed the CGI doubles. It just didn’t bother me. I’ve come to expect, the bigger budget from a studio minded production, then they prioritize speed and release date over finishing stuff and releasing when it’s ready. Thor Ragnarok & Black Panther also had the dodgy CGI. This isn’t just a Disney thing. I’ve said it numerous times, but Hunger Games literally was released with unfinished CGI. Pay the CGI people more and give them more time to finish things!

I'm sure any of the effects could have been made even better if you threw a whole lot of money at it.

All I'm saying is, I didn't notice anything about the CG or VFX that bothered me or stopped me from enjoying the story. And that was after about a dozen times watching it in the theaters. Since it was released on D+ I've seen it another half-dozen times or so.

I get more pulled in by the story and everything that is at stake, rather than by the effects used to tell the story. I'm sure they must have used stunt people and some face-replacement in some scenes, maybe - but I definitely didn't pay any attention to that.

Those doubles and other bad CGI (Those Bitey, Cable Covered Things) warrants my suspicion that after the film was done and was screened to the director, she said..

" Wow, this CGI is the pits...lets just lower all levels to barely perceptible...we can just say we intended it to look this way, did my deposit show up yet ? "

It does not sound likely at all...

The movie was originally scheduled for release in 2020, they had plenty of extra time to work on it. If they had felt anything was wrong that average moviegoers would have a problem with, they would have fixed it.

I think the VFX are just fine, not only that, the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and the location shooting is gorgeous.

I don't think the Deviants have bad CG. Am I missing something here?

Same thing happened to me when watching both the Dune UHD and The King’s Man on D+ recently (during darker scenes). Ended up buying that remote thingy and turning off the setting in question in the service menu, rather than it spoiling any more movies for me.

Didn’t notice it when I watched The Eternals on D+, but then again, the movie was so fookin’ boring, I’d probably nodded off a few times and potentially missed any dimming.

ILM did the bulk of the Deviant animation and I thought they were pretty good as well. WETA did the final battle on the volcano. Digital Domain did stuff in between.

I loved this film! And while the home release may not be the best I've ever seen, it has not kept me from enjoying it multiple times on both Disney+ and on the UHD disc.

I can understand some of the criticism, but I surely hope it doesn't mean we'll never see a continuation of these characters.
