there are 4 profiles for BD

BD-Audio: no players so far, meant as an audio only player meant to be like SACD or DVD-A

BD-Video 1.0: most, if not all, players today

BD-Video 1.1: min video standard for new players launching after Octobre. The main difference is that 1.1 requires a second decoder for a second stream. With the second encoder the movie could have an added commentary video (for example) that is shown as a PiP.

BD-live: BD live is like 1.1 but the main difference is that it also is required to have an internet connection for alternate content. There are also other changes (like more static memory and stuff) to support this feature.

If you have a BD v1.0 and there is a PiP then the person authoring the title could decide to not give you an option for it or give you the option to hear but not see it.

"Live" content could be stuff like extra content (like making more language subtitles available on-line for DL, which gets saved to the static mem.) or live content (such as linking to the commercial internet site for merchandising purpose or some on-line gaming)
