Doing an AV Recever Shuffel

Time to move AV Recever's about the house.

1. STR-DA5300ES (Replaced with a STR-5400ES Main HT THANKS SONY)
2. STR-DA777ES (Moving from Master Bedroom to Guest Room)
3. STR-DA555ES (Moving from Guest Room to Garage)

I have been doing a lot of reading of a few forums and reviews on the web looking for a new AV Recevier to go into the master bedroom.

Will be hooked up with this gear: Mitsubishi WS-65908 (Craig Rounds) HDTV, Panasonic BD55k, Dishnetwork VIP622, Roku

HDMI is not going to be used at the time. I have tried a HDFury2 v3 FW 1.51, I was not happy with the results.

1. Pioneer VSX-03TXH **
2. Denon AVR-2309CI
3. Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K
4. Denon AVR-1909
5. Sony STR-DH1000

So what do you recomend, I'm thinking the Pioneer VSX-03TXH is the one for my bedroom.

Any of those would be nice for a bedroom IMO,

My opinion might just be a little biased, but I've run through my fair share of units at stores and a lot of online reading...I'd stick to the Elite or Denon, easily - the 03 or the 2309.

Did Sony swap out your 5300 for a 5400 if so how did you manage that?

Yes they did, the 5300ES still has advanced exchange for a new unit option listed on the support website. I said I wanted the the advanced exchange, the next day I got a call saying they no longer had new 5300es units to send me, so they asked if a 5400es would be ok. I gave them a hard time about loosing the S-Video inputs. maybe I should have pushed for a 6400es because of the loss of the S-Video

Specific Symptoms

• The on-screen menu is not visible, or may be slow to appear, when the STR-DA5300ES A/V receiver is connected via HDMI to a video source and television that are capable of Deep Color.
  NOTE: Deep Color was added with HDMI version 1.3 and supports 10-bit, 12-bit, and 16-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths which allows rendering of over one billion colors in greater detail than previous versions.
• You may experience a darker than expected picture on your television when using your Sony® STR-DA5300ES A/V Receiver to upconvert a component video signal to an HDMI signal.
• The following symptoms may occur when the STR-DA5300ES A/V receiver is connected to some 1080p televisions that are not capable of displaying 1080/24p resolution:
  • The on-screen menu is not visible, or may be slow to appear, when the television is connected with an HDMI cable.
  • The picture is not visible when the television is connected with an HDMI cable and the A/V receiver is in GUI MODE.
  • The on-screen menu and picture are not visible, or may be slow to appear, when up-converting an analog signal to HDMI and up-scaling the resolution to 1080p.
• There may be no video and/or no Audio when using DIRECTV® Satellite Receiver box HR20.
• There may be no GUI (Graphical User Interface) when connected to various 1080P capable televisions
• When connected to select STR-DA5300ES A/V receivers via HDMI input, a limited number of devices may show no video and/or play no audio.
  • Audio may cut out when playing "Dolby® Digital Plus" format
  • Audio may stop after 1 hour when playing "DTS-HD" or "DTS-Master" format
  • Audio may stop after 5 seconds when switched to "Dolby TrueHD" from "AAC" or "Dolby Digital Plus"

You've had really good success with Sony. Why not stick with Sony? Espcially since you've taken advantage of the "Avdanced Exchange", and have consumer loyalty. This will give you leverage/perk with any future requests you have. JMO

if you are interested in a change of pace, then I would go with the Denon 2309 of the Pioneer 03.

I was looking for a change so I ordered a Pioneer VSX-03TXH today. I hope it's going to be a good choice.

I have not owned a Pioneer product since 2000 when I purchased the Sony my STR-DA555ES, followed very quickly with the STR-DA777ES and that was replaced by a TA-N9000ES and TA-P9000ES.

I then added a 2nd TA-N9000ES and bridged them, I was still not happy so replaced it with a Nakamichi PA-1 Amp that I was happy with till I bought my ML ReQuest and needed more power so I got a ATI AT2505. I still wanted more so I got the Sunfire TGA7400. I keept the TA-P9000ES till last year and replaced it with the STR-DA5300ES that I use as a pre-amp so the powe rating was not a factor. So I guess your correct Got_Rice I've had really good success with Sony over the years. I have and have had lots of ES items. Think I have had all there Flagship DVD players and a few SACD ES Players.

I have had a long history with sony for the last 10 year or so and could have easily put a STR-5300ES in the bedroom for less $$ than the Pioneer, Its there now. I just wanted something diffrent, If I'm not happy with it I'll just sell it and get something diffrent and someone will get a good deal on a used VSX-03TXH. I still need to decide if I'm going to keep my DVDO HD+ in the mix. Can anyone tell me if the video processing is any good in the VSX-03TXH and how it would compare to the DVDO HD+?

Seem's I'll have to wait till monday to get the Pioneer VSX-03TXH in my hands. It shipped out yesterday. going to be a long weekend waiting for it.

I picked up a Pioneer BDP-51FD to go in the bedroom at Best Buy, its only profile 1.1 but I never use BD Live on my BD55k

Thanks, I seen it that morning it was released and got it burned to a disk before going down to buy the player. knowing that the firmware release included DTS-MA and seeing it on sale at best buy for $269 made it an easy choice for the cost so I picked one up.

I myself just got a 51fd and am testing it out versus my PS3.

Other factor was it would not do hdmi audio if you were using component video

Its alot like the BDP-55K in many ways.

BB offered me either the Pioneer 320 or the Pannasonic BDP-80 for $299ea. I went with the 80 just because I knew more about it.

After a few days with the Pioneer VSX-03TXH I'd say I'm a bit disappointed at this price point.

I do not want to start a flame war with the Pioneer fanboys.

Feature set, sound quality, etc?
