THANK YOU!!!! I adore some of the newer comic book movies as much as the next guy, but I tire of having to mentally prepare myself just to watch some of them. They've taken the fun out of comic book movies. Comic books have gotten this way too. It's not fun anymore and I want to enjoy myself. Not feel worse than I already do.

As for unpopular opinion, I have many that would make people spit pea soup. Here they are:

- Most Marvel Studios movies are pure garbage
- Speed 2 Cruise Control is one of the top 10 best movies and is better than the original
- The Phantom is a much better movie than anything out today that is a comic book movie
- Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is a terrific Superman movie
- Superman Returns is the best Superman movie in the last 35 years
- John Carpenter is an OK director
- Elizabeth is one of the greatest movies made in the last 25 years
- Eddie is on the list of the top 100 best movies of all time
- The Star Wars prequels stand up with the original trilogy as excellent filmmaking
- Avengers dropped in quality after the first movie and hasn't recovered
- Twister is on the list of the top 100 best movies of all time
- Pump Up The Volume is a defining movie of the 90's
- Clint Eastwood is just an ok actor
- Aside from West Side Story, Spielberg has lost it and needs to get his groove back
- The Coen Brothers are pretty much overrated
- Garfield is an excellent movie
- Martin Scorsese only has a FEW excellent movies and the rest are alright
- Leonardo Dicaprio is boring
- Eraser is in the top 3 best Arnold movies
- Foreign films are usually not so great
- indie/arthouse films usually tend to stink
- Uncut Gems may be the worst movie ever made
- First Reformed may be the 2nd worst movie ever made
- Brokeback Mountain is on the list of the 10 worst movies ever made
- Ang Lee's Hulk is his finest work
- Hulk is on the list of the top 15 all-time greatest comic book movies ever made
- Rob Zombie hasn't done anything good yet
- Kevin Feige knows how to ruin comic books and that's about all
- Thelma and Louise is Ridley Scott's best work
- The Alien series is good, but not great
- Michael Keaton movies are grossly underrated
- Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, AND Batman & Robin trump the Nolan films every day of the week
I agree with you on the following:

-Most Marvel Studios movies are garbage
-Superman Returns is the best Superman movie in the last 35 years (I think it's the best yet)
-John Carpenter is an ok director
-The Star Wars prequels stand up with the original trilogy as excellent filmmaking
-Martin Scorsese only has a FEW excellent movies and the rest are alright (I like Casino, Gangs of New York, The Wolf of Wall Street, and that's it)
-Leonardo DiCaprio is boring (I would say more overrated than boring)
-Foreign films are usually not so great
-Kevin Feige knows how to ruin comic books and that's about all

Family and friends have tried to win me over and over. I think Forrest Gump is the worst movie ever made.

While I agree that Gump has its problems, I can think of several films that I'd describe as worse overall.

I do think thats the film that brings together both sides of Mann most effectively, you have the showy visuals of Manhunter but you also have quite subtle done drama with a great performance by Caan.

I agree that comic book movies have lost the whimsical. I don't mind that they're dark. I think Reeves' Batman looks like a great take on it and he's such a reliable director so I trust him to make a good film.
But I look at the MCU films and they lack such depth and colour.

I agree with those points listed. But...

Honestly, the worst takes I've seen ever listed on this board. And DVR use to be a regular here with a lot of bad takes.

I don't mean to be like a goat milk latte Letterboxd user but Amelie is such a basic foreign film.

The joke stands though.

It fills me with the warm and fuzzies, but Jeaunet is pretty much a one trick pony. His overall work is of limited appeal to me, though A Very Long Engagement scratches my WWI romance itch pretty well.

Still, someone who dismisses foreign films, including things like Seven Samurai, the template for pretty much all of modern action movies, is silly.

Agreed. I always found his work to be a much too glossy version of Gilliam.
But I did like A Very Long Engagement as well.

It's not just a defining action film. It's a defining film period. Maybe that's basic of me to talk so positively about Seven Samurai but it's just such a tremendous work of art that it's hard to talk ill about it.

They say as they watch The Lighthouse with subtitles on.

Speaking of subtitles, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a sublime blockbuster film. It breaks the mold of the summer movie as it's such a dark, bleaker toned film for what is typically released around that time. But it's not all eye shadow and long, dark hair as there's still some hope in it.
But the real amazing thing is how it forced audiences to read for a third of the film. Since most of the Apes sign, the subtitles had to be placed. I think that's fantastic. Get everyone reading for a change and to experience a film a different way.

Dawn is my favorite of the whole franchise. Better than the very first one, that I love rather completely as well.

Dawn is the best. War is almost as good. Off by a hair. But I've been rewatching these with the gf since it's her firs time seeing anything in the world of Apes. She dug Dawn a lot. Giving some time for War since both films are a tad heavy (we both work in news, so she sees a lot of things people shouldn't see for that long).

As for Rise...well. I shrugged it off when it first came out. But then after a friend said to see it I did. And I liked it. Thought it was better than it I thought it could be.
But after some years and rewatching it with her I've come to the conclusion that it's not the best. it's not awful. Just very typical and hokey. Moments of brilliance that get slightly ruined by hammy acting or off dialogue.
Also James Franco is in this.

Great trilogy regardless. Makes me want to watch the quintology. Been forever and maybe there's cheesy charm in those sequels that I don't remember.
