I never expect much specular highlights out of these older, low budget movies, but the final battle between Talon and Cromwell was DV awesomeness. Yeah, it comes up with the text screen before the film plays regarding the audio issues.

They don't specifically say, but it sure sounds like the 5.1 track comes sourced directly from the old Anchor Bay DVD release (which had spacial issues from what I recall) — and they most likely just "upscaled" that to the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track.

They recommend viewing with the 2,0 Stereo track (optically sourced) as the best source, even though it still has some minor damage at times.

Default Unboxing The Sword and the Sorcerer 4K

Hello, I did a unboxing of this great movie on my Youtube channel and I show all that comes with this awesome set. I recorded footage of the menu screens, an actual footage from the movie. I hope you like the review. Here is the link:

What is the reverse art? It looks like that was omitted from the video above.

The 5.1 track was probably the old Chace Digital Stereo mix, which isn't surprising, as almost all 5.1 tracks for movies that pre-date the implementation of Dolby Digital are exactly that and Anchor Bay was the company that advertised their use of it (prominently) on their DVD releases, while others did not, even though it has long been the industry standard approach for making new mixes for old stereo or mono content.

Watched this last night for the first time, and really enjoyed it. When I was a kid I was obsessed with fantasy films, and somehow I missed this one. I would have been over the moon if I had seen this when I was a kid.

As an adult I still really enjoyed it. It's a silly film overall, with a lot of plot issues, but man is it entertaining. This is one where you just have to sit back, put your feet up and enjoy the show. I think Richard Lynch stole the show, but the cast overall worked well and seemed to be having a lot of fun making the film.

Presentation was great, and it features a ton of interviews. Overall, solid fun film, and solid release.

I know, right? How can you not like a film where the sword has three blades, two of them shoot out, and the hilt is a dagger!?

I would build my own version of the blade out of Playskool Bristle Blocks and swing that #$%^ all over the house!

Received my copy today and the 4K disc is covered in deep scratches. Messaged Shout about getting a replacement disc.

Ugh. I was dreading this after their Alligator release. Why does Shout Factory suck the way they do at disc replication!? Why!?

Same. Got mine from Diabolik so I e-mailed them about an exchange. Bizarre to me that SF seems to have so many issues with this

This was a good blind buy! I had a blast with it. There were a few tiny scratches in the middle of the data surface on the UHD disc but it played flawlessly. There are a few even smaller ones on the BD but I’ll have to check that disc another night.

This was a bit of a slog to get through tbh. I've mentioned that I was never a big fan of this type of film so that could be a factor. If it weren't for the boobs, this could've easily been passed off as a TV movie (or an episode of the Voyagers! TV series). Dunno, these kinds of movies always sort of look and feel cheap/cheaply made and this one is no exception. The generic-sounding score didn't help much, either IMO. All in all - an OK timewaster but nowhere near on the same level as Beastmaster or Conan the Barbarian. Also, frankly, I'm surprised Shout gave this the 4K treatment. Transfer looked good for the most part but I think if someone were to do a side by side comparison with a Blu-ray, the differences would be indistinguishable. Not one of the better 4K discs I've watched. Alligator, OTOH, looks fantastic.

I have several Italian knockoffs sitting unwatched in my collection which I suspect I'll never get to lol.

Yeah, I don't know what's going on with their releases. They have by far the most problems with scratched discs. It's getting to the point where I have to pre-order it from two different places and return several copies in order to get an acceptable set, and even that tactic couldn't net a non-scratched copy of the Alligator 4K disc. I guess SF enjoys accepting returns.

There was a period a couple years ago where every disc I was getting seemed to be scratched. It has been better lately. The occasional disc still comes with a small scratch or two but they don’t seem to affect playback. This is by far the worst looking disc I have ever received. Can’t believe how mangled it looks.
