That's very disappointing. Does anyone know if there are subtitle files for this set somewhere online? I'm converting mine to mkv files and could import the subs if they existed.

I found this listing of subtitles for the show. You can ignore the prompts to download a browser extension, it'll eventually just download fine without it.
https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/sse...n/idmovie-1535

Based on the one file I downloaded though, the subtitles are probably based on the DVDs, so there may be timing issues and gaps where the Blu-rays restored footage.

You can find them in .srt format on the link below (the BDRip ones). They were converted from the Norwegian set, but they should be fine for the US set aswell.

I still have the untouched subs from the Norwegian set (which had English SDH, French, German, Portuguese, Castillian Spanish and Polish subs), in case anyone wants them.

Netflix has the show in my region (but still uses the DVD sources), so I got the Latin American Spanish subs from there and synced and added the missing lines to match the Blu-ray versions, using the retail subs as a help.

I would like to try it and see what you mean by "untouched." I recently started to back up my dvd/blu-ray collection and learned some things about the subtitles through trial by error.

On DVDs I noticed that, after converting in Handbrake to mp4, the vobsubs look horrible, but the CCs look great in VLC. The CCs look a little different after being "burned in" to the mp4 file but still look acceptable (I create a "burned in" version because otherwise my Roku doesn't seem to be able to display them).

The blu-rays seem to have a different file type altogether from the CCs and vobsubs. And after I convert the video in handbrake the blu subtitles look indistinguishable from how they looked when viewed directly on the disc, even when I burn them into the image for display on my fussy Roku.

When I first got into blu-ray one of the first things I noticed was how much better the subs looked than the subs on dvd. Is that what you mean by "untouched?" There's no degradation in quality? Either way I would still like to try them out and would sincerely appreciate any help you could offer.

Kind regards,
The Bone Ranger!

If you are using Plex, there is a setting somewhere in there which automatically turns off the subtitles on a file, even when they are default on. I don't remember where it is, because I just happened to stumble upon it when I was looking for something else, but when I saw the setting existed, I noticed that it was turning off the subtitles, even on foreign films where I wanted them on. That might be the problem that you're having, because Roku can play vobsubs.

I'm not using Plex. I'm just transferring my mp4/mkv files onto a flash drive and plugging that into the Roku, which I believe is a Roku 4. I have subtitles set to always turned on.

I tried a Rick and Morty mkv from hdencode and the subtitles showed up but there was no audio. After converting it to mp4 in handbrake the audio would play but I could no longer access the subtitles, which makes be believe that the Roku doesn't like the way Handbrake is including the subs. I should also mention that this is also the case with my Visio TV, it doesn't seem to recognize the subtitles after using handbrake.

It's possible, I don't use Handbrake because I don't like the extra round of compression, but I don't want to threadjack any more than I already have, I was just hoping that a random thing I only found out about recently might help somebody else. Good luck!

I tried out the first few episodes and so far the imported subs look great. Thanks again!

Now hopefully they're working on the German episodes, the Hollywood Bowl (restored and remastered with the Parrot Sketch included), and the first film (And Now For Something Completely Different). Although the first movie looks pretty damn good on dvd, I'd still like to see a Blu-ray release of it.

There's a German Blu-ray release of it:

It's apparently region-free:
