unfortunately, I'm one of these people. I can definitely relate. Not making "tons" of money, but I think over $3500 a month is decent....yet I'm miserable every single day I walk through those doors and throw on this gotdamn headset. I hate it.

Wow what a stupid comment. Have you ever heard that money does not buy you happiness. In fact, many times it is just the opposite.

Oh and for what its worth he is right about one thing, he can't act.

I agree. From what I read in the top post, I actually like Shia a bit more now. It might be a little bit of crying/"why me?"-ish stuff, but for the most part it seems pretty honest.

I completely agree, he said he's coming off heartbreak too and obviously has alot on his mind at the moment, or at least at the time of that interview. Smells like another case of unwanted celebrity status or something.

...or viral marketing for Transformers 2.

I do like his comments though, this feels like it'll blow over, but I like the honesty.

I'm sure we've all heard that line but have YOU heard the follow-up that is along the lines of "People who say that just don't know where to shop."?

I think teabaggins would agree that even if money can't make him happy, it can at least afford him the time to get away and cheer himself up. He has enough stocked away to cover his bills for the rest of his life, so his sabbatical can be as long as he likes.

I'd respect an opinion like that from some like Anthony Hopkins (who was mentioned upthread), Daniel Day-Lewis, or even Angelina Jolie, who balances out her Wanted and Tomb Raider flicks with Oscar-bait. But Shia? C'mon. He's like 23, one of the biggest actors out right now, and mad rich. Plus, how many "quality" movies has he been in? It reminds me of an angtsy teenager reading Nietzche and being "fed up" with the world... just wait til you get a little older, you won't know how great you've had it.

I agree.

On the same token, I can't wait until I have the opportunity to make lavish comments like this in order to stir buzz for my next big blockbuster performance. I'd never do this for an Oscar worthy performance though... hmmm, on that premise, I have a feeling that we'll be hearing a lot of this type of thing from Shia over the entire course of his lame career!

This is one of the most foolish quotes that is floating around. Money equals freedom and freedom is happiness, so yes money does buy happiness. The saying should go: Money can't cure clinical depression.

He's probably tired of talking to the press.

That's one way to look at it, but living out your dream and not having as much money as you would if you went to become a physician could make you unhappy, even if you do have a ton of money.

Career choices have nothing to do with the quote.

That doesn't make much sense because choosing a job based on pay, especially when they are of different fields, is exactly what people are thinking when they attribute more money to making them happy. So I think career choices do play a role in that quote. I mean, if I was an electrician who makes little money or one that makes a lot of money, I would like to be the one who has a lot of money. However, if my happiness comes from being an electrician, it shouldn't matter if I have a lot of money or not, even though I would enjoy more money (not saying that more money would keep me happy though).

Maybe that's exactly what YOU are thinking when you hear it
Of course they do, if you want them to
Just because I think of my favorite food when I hear people talk about being hungry doesn't mean they think of my favorite food. Of course you can apply the quote to career choices, but it's not exclusive to them.

I'm just saying that it's doing what you love to do that makes you happy, not the tangible things.
