Next year you can watch Killer Party. It to takes place on April Fools day (part of the film at least).

In 2021, I also somehow forgot to watch the disc on April 1. I guess I had it in my head that I needed to see this on the exact date for the first time. Thankfully, I did not forget about it yesterday.

Several college friends celebrate spring break on the weekend of April 1 by taking a ferry to an idyllic island mansion owned by their wealthy friend, Muffy, played by Deborah Foreman. As soon as they arrive, they are treated to relentless good-natured pranks and gags, in keeping with the holiday. When these guests start to disappear one by one at the hands of an unseen assailant, however, the survivors discover that their fates are no laughing matter.

The 1986 slasher horror offering, April Fool's Day, directed by Fred Walton (When a Stranger Calls), may have arrived in theaters well after the heyday of the genre, but it exudes enough riveting subversiveness to keep things lively. I have always loved scary movies that take place on islands, since the isolated location becomes a menace in its own right. Frank Mancuso Jr., who produced the Friday the 13th sequels, had an adept hand in giving audiences the thrills that they wanted, while also maintaining a spirit of fun.

The cast is pure dynamite. Foreman, whom all of you know from Valley Girl and Real Genius, is wonderful as the host who may or may not have more than jokes in mind for her visitors. Amy Steel, as one of our heroines, previously appeared as a final girl in Friday the 13th Part 2. Clayton Rohner, as one of the class clown guys, would appear in Modern Girls that same year. Deborah Goodrich, who starred with Rohner in One of the Guys, is a terrific presence as a party girl with an inner toughness. Ken Olandt (Summer School) makes for a grounded hero type once his character begins to understand the predicament.

The actual April 1st holiday is always a mild annoyance to me, because I am bracing myself for the inevitable jokes. I have a softer spot for it in present day, though, because it is now the one day of the year when people do not automatically believe everything they read on the internet. At any rate, April Fool's Day is a killer way to ring in the occasion.
We will let this one slide but your getting a reminder that April 21st is The Fog day. Preferably at midnight but anytime is fine that day. Carry on soldier!

It's not accurate to call this movie a slasher.
[Show spoiler]Nobody dies, and even before we are told it's all a joke, there is no slashing in the movie.

I enjoy April Fool's Day, but "slasher" is a misnomer.

I disagree. The plentiful scenes of slasher mayhem justify the movie's inclusion in the genre.

Besides,
[Show spoiler]for the purposes of my review, it would be a spoiler to call it anything else.

Still a little heavy on UHD upgrades for my liking but that said, Cat People and The Funhouse are definitely worthy upgrades after nearly 10 years, and Fire in the Sky is a very exciting announcement.

In terms of Universal 4K UHD upgrades, obviously Army of Darkness is on the cards, but what else might be coming? I'm sure they'll do Darkman and Psycho II, which probably means Psycho III as well (who knows about 4), but after that, it's difficult to say. These are probably the contenders:

Deadly Blessing (the Blu-ray looks to have been a poor seller given how long the slipcover hung around for)
The People Under the Stairs
Shocker
The Serpent and the Rainbow
Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (I'd say this has a good chance, and they might feel obliged to do Bordello of Blood with it)
The Sentinel
Ghost Story
The Car
Ghost Story
Nightmares
Cherry Falls
Village of the Damned
Death Becomes Her
Raising Cain
Firestarter
Serial Mom
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Land of the Dead
Drag Me to Hell
The Strangers
Dracula (1979)

Some of these certainly look more likely than others (the post-2000 titles, those helmed by big-name directors), and I very much doubt we'll see them all upgraded, but as always it will depend on a few things, like past sales data and the restoration costs involved.

I'd say Village of the Damned has the highest chances out of everything on that list simply by being a John Carpenter film. I imagine Scream is going to put out everything they can of his in 4k.
