My DVD recorders have video block noise reduction, do any of the streaming cos. offer a browser plugin or streaming decoding software update that uses video NR to specifically target and smooth over video data reduction noise?

So this might be a situation where the streaming quality beats the physical disc.

To my eyes and ears, the 4K HDR 5.1DD+ presentation was flawless. This wasn't a super action packed soundtrack. The score was, however, impressively represented in the compressed format.

While I have experienced 1080p blurays that have beat out 4K HDR streams, I doubt that this will be the case here. This one was done right. This can, at times, be a very dark film. It looked amazing 9 feet away from my 130" screen...not a single artifact or macroblock to be seen...only endless details in all the dark shadowy corners.

I won't bother with a physical release unless this hits UHD.

agree 100% I always say when buying equipment speakers should be a notch or two above the rest of the stuff you buy.

Sorry never streamed to a PC except for the purpose data flow analysis so never looked into the nuts and bolts.

IIRC some of my devices has noise reduction specifically for IPTV (streaming). On all devices I turn off all video processing (motion flow, noise reduction, etc.) to get as close as possible to a true monitor environment. For sources I have match frame rate on and match resolution if available.

Some picture aberrations are glossed over by all the video processing in displays. Hence the Filmmaker Mode on some display devices.

When we watch certain DVD's I use the Oppo 203 because I may invoke some noise reduction, sharpening, etc.

I won't bother with a digital copy that conveys no real ownership. If the movie is *that* good, then really owning it really matters.

The 4K stream may well best the blu-ray disc, but then again it should by definition. I doubt it will surpass a 4K disc.

I really enjoyed this title, but as I get older, there are fewer and fewer "must owns"... I'll pick this up someday way in the future when I want to see it again or it's on sale in UHD or whatever format follows it.

There are just so many titles that I've bought over and over again...I can't imagine THE DEERHUNTER, CASINO or THE SHINING looking any better than they do in UHD so that may be the end of the line for them... but I've said that before...I don't think I'll upgrade anything from F13 bluray boxset... but I'll certainly be happy to get rid of my TARANTINO box set once I can replace every disc with UHD. The local VALUE VILLAGE outlet always gets my cast-off..

Upgrade-itis can be fatiguing if you allow it to overwhelm you. I am being more selective about which blu-rays I upgrade to 4K as the benefits (and sometimes the detriments) of doing so don't always justify the expense. If a movie is a first time purchase, then naturally I want the 4K disc.

Digital purchases are fine for titles of casual interest that I may or may not ever revisit, especially when offered at rental prices. I see them as disposable entertainment whose main benefit is that I can easily share them with friends and family. I NEVER lend out my discs.

I preordered the Outfit from GRUV using their current 20% off so ended up being $15.99 with free shipping. I loved Rylance in Bridge of Spies and got the same sort of feeling about his performance in this one. Even without it being action packed, I will take the lossless audio over DD+.

I also preordered Smokin Aces 4K for $15.99 and Ambulance 4K for $21.83 at the same time. Easily the lowest prices on both those titles I have seen to this point.

The promo code is 20HOPOFF if anyone needs it.

I too generally prefer to have a lossless presentation, I'm just saying that the compressed track was quite impressive here.

I would have been listening to it with DSU setting on my amp. My expectations were low, which may have contributed to me being pleasantly surprised when the score elicited such a visceral response from me... or it could just have been my tactile transducers kicking in..lol..

Five months and counting I guess. My friend had to postpone coming over to install the JVC. His live in girlfriend just tested positive, so I told him to hold off for now. I took advantage of the opportunity with no projector in place to hook up my turntable and create a new profile in the Storm Audio with distances and levels for that configuration, and got to hear what my new PS Audio phono pre-amp can do. Had a good 90 minutes listening to vinyl, which I have not done for quite some time.

You're handling what must surely be a disappointing situation quite well ...LOL...

If I remember, you're the guy sitting on a backlog of titles until the new JVC is in place?

I think the JVC you're jetisoning is actually better than the new to me RS570 that I've been raving about for the last little bit!

Anyway, I'm sure the wait will be worth it! Can't wait to hear about it!

I've become so much less precious about my things as I've gotten older. I haven't cared about special packaging or limited editions since the days of LASERDISC.
I find the joy of introducing someone to a new to them title outweighs my concern over having a disc returned damaged.

I get the argument in this thread about truly "owning" physical media over streaming... but after "owning" so many physical titles and having so many titles not returned, lost, damaged over the years, I guess I can't think of anything that isn't really readily replaceable..

A couple of years ago, when I started introducing my kids to Tarantino, I remember breaking out my boxed set to grab INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. Of course there was a huge scratch in it that rendered the disc unplayable... it was more than likely ruined by someone I had lent the set to... that night, we watched something else and, less than 48 hours later, I had a new bluray copy of IG delivered to my front door by AMAZON... cost me less than $10 cdn.

A few weeks ago, when we screened the new UHD of the movie, it occurred to me that I'd never even cracked open the replacement BD...
My biggest dilemma is how I'm going to donate the boxed set once I've got all of TARANTINO's movies in 4K. I'll probably try and fit the new disc on the spindle with the damaged disc. That way whoever gets it will still have the matching art work disc along with something that will actually play..

Thanks and I am that guy. I considered still having him come over, but I thought how crappy it would be after two years of good decisions, how sadly ironic it would be if it was my hobby of sitting in a room by myself that would be what caused me to get Covid.

You made the right decision. Anticipation can be a lot of fun, too.

That's exactly why physical media is superior to streaming. With thousands of copies in thousands of people's hands everything is always easy to find. With streaming every single copy of each movie is controlled by a single company and they can easily remove or modify all of them.

I don't care about my personal ownership of physical titles. I care that ownership is spread out across as many people as possible.

Yeah...I get the idea...I just can't get on board with what I perceive as a certain level of paranoia (?) that seems to permeate this thread - as though all these big bad profit motivated entities are going to somehow deprive their market of the things they want.....but I guess SOMEONE is keeping me from a decent copy of M.Night Shyamilan's THE VILLAGE .

If you're only interested in popular movies then it's likely that the overwhelmingly majority of them will remain available to stream. But with thousands of movies and TV shows released every year I have a very hard time believing that any company is going to continue to offer every title.

Lots of titles have already been removed due to offensive content, rights disputes, unpopularity, and other issues.

I'm interested in everything to an extent. The more obscure , unpopular, offensive titles are generally the ones I've bought...but even in the case of the latter, I've been able to upgrade titles like Cannibal Holocaust to UHD and will eventually be able to upgrade THRILLER - A CRUEL PICTURE, PIECES etc...

There's a market for these and they'll always be available.
