I just finished watching the 4th season and personally thought it was the best one. Of course, I may be a bit biased since it's set in "Maine".

It was a solid season. My order from best to worst seasons: 1, 4, 2, 3.

3 starts off interesting then the second half of the season is silly and drags. The others are all good.

That’s good to hear. Like others, I thought that S3 was a bit weaker than the previous seasons, so was hoping that it would come back stronger. Looking forward to watching it.

I also didn't care for season 3 as much. It started out strong and ended strong, but most of the middle wasn't particularly interesting, nor were the motivations of the characters. I thought season 4 starts out with an interesting mystery and continues to peel back layer after layer and each character's decisions and motivations make sense once all is revealed.

Additionally, I thought they did a reasonable job portraying Maine lobstermen and islanders (even though it was filmed in Nova Scotia). Islanders are an certainly different even from Maine mainlanders; usually polite but more adverse to "outsiders" when they want to move beyond just being tourists (I admit most of Maine this is way, you could have moved here when you were 1 day old but unless you were born here you won't be considered a Mainah). The show is set on a fictional island; I imagine it's a bit of an amalgamation between Peaks Island (since it's near referenced Portland and is touristy) and Islesboro (mostly known for the resident celebrities but the island sure is interesting otherwise, everyone there literally waves to everyone, for real, it can be weird).
