Short answer: the stores never got these in stock, it was online only, came in and out of stock like 10 times since it went on pre-order for $29.99 in December. - The overabundance of Eternals and WW1984 steelbooks made people think these would be available for in-store pickup at midnight on release day (and it wasn't), so there was panic immediately after. - Some pre-orders didn't ship out in time so people panicked some more and those are finally being delivered. So when the dust settles it will be "hopefully these restock" or "hopefully Sony re-releases this with the extended cut/different art" even though there is no gurantee of either. The first two did get Black Friday restocks but they were overabundant (along with many Disney steelbooks). It seems studios are a bit smarter when it comes to making sure these don't lay around and go on a steep sale. So basically if you didn't pre-order you didn't stand a chance. The unavailable nearby might be because people are returning their damaged orders (or perhaps even extras, although eBay prices make me doubt that- even if they have been going down slightly since the release day). |

Again, I know all this. I was asking if anyone has SEEN it available for in-store pickup in their area, even if it's a copy that was returned because it got runover by a garbage truck. |

Some of the negative reviews on Best Buy are too much. Someone is complaining about a loose disc.

I would assume not since if went back into the system, it would get purchased for pick up within minutes by someone hoping its not damaged or thinking its store stock. So it would either still be in the Pick Up/Customer Service area or someone would need to pick it up from the media section.

That probably means a single copy somewhere in the US was returned to a store and put back in inventory. It was probably damaged too. Same thing happened with godzilla vs kong for me. Everyone just needs to chill out and wait for the eventual restock. Sony reprinted Homecoming steels like 3 different times spread out over multiple years.

Ok, I admit I was curious and did the work for you, it went like this: Original Release October 2017 Reprinted June 2019 Reprinted October 2020 alongside Far From Home release. There may have been some more restocks inbetween but they weren't posted in the thread. Bottom line Sony is not against reprinting steelbooks like some other studios. 1. never picked up their copy and pre-ordered 2.maybe people like some in this thread who never updated their payments and they timed out and went back into inventory 3. someone returned a copy for whatever reason (read all about it here people like seeing a tiny dent and returning it or the package was ripped etc. so those that may still be sealed back into inventory... If you have 50-100k copies and even just 1% have payment pick up or defect issues on the customer side you'd have an influx back into the site of about 500-1000 copies |

Once I added the steelbook to my saved item page, I've seen 2 copies "nearby" in 2 days. A bit too far for me to gamble since they could easily be damaged, but clearly some are getting returned.

Well that's strange since you can buy it for a lot less than $100 on eBay and you can probably sell the Dune steelbook for a good price if it's in good shape.
So, was that a joke? Last edited by cyclorama; 04-18-2022 at 02:45 AM. |
