Default Speaker Sugggestions

Ok folks I have a Yamaha 1900 running 2 Polk monitor 70's and a Polk CS2 in my front and 2 as my surrounds. The question I have to ask is what would be a good upgrade for my fronts and center? I would sale my 4 70's and my cs2. I have 2 Yamaha surrounds that I could use. I was looking at these speakers
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1199496732590 but they are 4 oms and I cant find a center speaker for it. my budget would be 1500 for fronts and center.

Thanks

Here's your center
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1151658129072

Here's your fronts

These are what I have as well as the matching bipolar and single shelf for sides and back... fronts and center channels are powered and the sound is SUPER!

I would start by looking through these, you should be able to get a nice front three for $1500.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=98095

Then stop by your local audio shop and try to listen to as many speakers as possible.

Where are you located? I can try to find some dealers in your area.

I would keep the 70's as well. Keep two as BIG surrounds and use the other two for maybe a 2ch system somewhere... IMO

If your front stage is a different brand, sell the Polk center

My question is when the hell did BB start selling MartinLogans, are we seeing another type of Polk marketing with these speakers. You know times are tough when BB is selling them.

I would stay with Martinlogan center these speakers have a unique sound nothing will match them and your front soundstage will sound very off IMO.

Damn you've got Monitor 70's as surrounds, how do they sound??

Martin Logans are really nice, as well as the Def Tech ones ^ BTS11 posted. If I were going to upgrade, I would go with Paradigm.

The Monitor 11's are pretty sweet and I think they run about $550 per speaker and the center that would go well with that is the CC-390 and that's about $500

Paradigm Monitor 11

Paradigm CC-390

There's a guy with a nice setup here on blu-ray.com, here's his gallery

i believe this would be your center, I think total you would be over your budget.

Try listening to this list of speakers, there will be some very good ones in your price range.

PSB Image series, Paradigm Monitor 9s, Monitor Audio Silver series, Energy Reference Connosuiers, B&W 600 series, Definative Tech BP10B or Mythos 5 or BP7006

Good shopping.....

The stores with the Magnolia Hi-Fi section have been selling them for a while. I heard a demonstration of these ML's in the Best Buy in Folsom, CA and I was duly impressed. Very nice sounding speakers!

Take your favorite BD with you! They've got it rigged for demos. I took my Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds & King Kong BD's with me. Pretty amazing.

Default B & W

I just bought a pair of B&W 685's and stands for the front surround speakers and stereo music and the B&W HTM62 for the center speaker. Fantastic sound. I'm still using a pair of old yamaha's for the rear speakers and my old yamaha sub.

If you are looking at electrostats, Magnepan is also a very nice brand.

http://www.magnepan.com/

They are good and are probably better than the MLs you are looking at. I have heard the big box MLs don't even compare to their other series of speakers. Audition away though!! It's your money and your decision ultimately. You will definitely want seperates to drive those speakers.

Heck for $1500 you better be able to get some 684's and the HTM62, my local guys were telling me $1450 +tax, if that is what I wanted packaged.

Buy B&W!

I have B&W 600 Series 3 HT, almost 9 years. My only regret is, I didn't go for the bigger center. So much sound comes from it, so much dialogue. I bought the center with the same size drivers as my fronts. Should have gone with bigger center and then got bigger fronts to match the center's drivers. Also, wouldn't have to had buy stands.

If I was buying today I'd get the HTM61 without a question and the 684s.

685s and stands will be around the same price as 684s.

Martin Logan's are totally cool, too. But I'm a B&W owner till the day I die.

My dad has the 603 Series 2 HT with the LCR, which was the bigger center at the time, I think he has had his speakers for about 7-8 years. Great speakers.

I do agree that usually the larger center is always a better buy because so much is coming from it. For instance, Energy suggest the C-C50 center channel with 5.5" drivers and 1" tweeter, I decided to go with the C-C100 with the matching 6.5" drivers of my speakers and I am so much happier that I did.

Man, if I could afford it, I would definitely buy those. They not only have quality sound through and through, but they're impressive to look at as well!
